2022 WINNERS
Congratulations to the GAIN 2022 Calendar Comptition Winners
Presentations for the GAIN Calendar 2022, run in conjunction with the Irish Kennel Club and Petbond, were made in the main ring on the Saturday of the show. Unfortunately not all the winners were able to attend, but six of the twelve successful contenders were able to be there to receive their prizes from Rob O'Sullivan on behalf of GAIN PET NUTRITION, Sean Delmar, IKC President, and a representative of the website, www.Petbond.ie

All twelve winners received a canvas of their winning photograph, a 50kg bag of Gain Kindness, and €100 with the overall winner also taking home a year's supply of GAIN and €500, and the runner-up too getting €250 and 6 months supply of food. So, look out for the announcement of this great competition next year again, and get the chance of having your dog's photograph featured on the GAIN Calendar....

IKC Championship Show 13/14 November 2021
It was fitting too that the Saluki Ch Ulmarra Osaat at Actolia, who had topped the entries at the previous two shows held in Ireland, the IKC International in October 2019 and the Dublin Dog Show 100th Anniversary event in December ‘19, should come back after almost two years break, to clinch his triple crown with his third in a row Best in Show. Owned by Sarah Cushley, one of our ex top Junior Handlers, and expertly handled by her, it was a popular win under our own International all breeds judge, Ann Ingram, who was judge elect for Crufts 2021, another victim of the pandemic. There were celebrations ‘down under’ as well, as Osaat was bred by Lynda Dunne, who had returned to her native Australia a couple of years ago after enjoying top honours in Ireland over many years with her Ulmarra Salukis, who put the breed on the map here.

A new one for top group honours when David Webb handled his and Gabriel Chrystal’s  ‘covid’ Miniature Schnauzer puppy, Killaspughbrone Newsflash, to Reserve Best in Show under Ann; ‘Hugo’ was at his first ever show, having previously been at just two training classes, so a great start for this pepper & salt youngster at just under 20 months of age. Bred by Jennifer Cawley, David is thrilled that he now has a youngster going back to his old lines, so doubtless we will be seeing more of this ex Dalmatian exhibitor in the future.

Ann’s BIS 3 winner was Roy & Marion Gregg’s Airedale Terrier, Ch & GB Ch Bambusa So Noble, who had won Group 3 on the first day under specialist, Susan Kealy. Just four years old, ‘Fred’ had 2 CCs under his belt when lockdown hit, but since the shows in GB returned in the summer, he has accumulated a further 4, doing the double on those four occasions with his sister, ‘Spice’, Ch & GB Ch Bambusa Follow The Dream, who also started with 2 pre-pandemic Ccs and has finished now with 7 tickets, all this from just 6 shows across the water. They were following in the footsteps of their Sire and dam, the multi Champion duo, B. Most Noble and B. Dream Model.
  
Making up the BIS foursome was Gavin Sugden & Rory Maguire’s Cocker Spaniel, Bencleuch Before The Storm; ‘Theo’ was just 12 months when we went into lockdown so this was a great return to the Irish showring, especially as he did the double with his kennelmate, Bencleuch Believe In Dreams, who won the Green Star and RBOB. This was ‘Lottie’s ‘ 2nd Green Star, her first having come at the same venue just a few weeks ago at the IGF&SS, so a lucky new venue for these two keen exhibitors.
