Kurt Nilsson judged all the stakes classes, starting with the Puppy Stakes where his winner was Jim and Karen Gibson’s Weimaraner Zilverein Strike A Pose In Vogue; nine-month-old ‘Vogue’ now with a night out at the Combined Canine/Royal Canin Irish Pup of the Year final to look forward to. In second place was Di Stirling, Sue Cale and Alf and Shirley Dobson’s Norwegian Buhund Arnscroft Bibbity Bobbity Bu.
TRALEE '16 CHAMPION STAKES
Kurt Nilsson’s champion stakes winner was Barry O’Neill’s Basset Hound Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, with the runner-up slot taken by Gordon and Janice Cunningham’s Rhodesian Ridgeback Ch, GB & Int Ch Walmadengie Brooklyn Bear.

Topping the Veteran Stakes under Kurt Nilsson was Carla Bollard O’Callaghan’s Afghan Hound Ch, GB & Int Ch Ch Ashahni Amir. In second place was Trevor Rodgers’ Japanese Shiba Inu Ch & GB Ch Jiltrain Jack The Lad, handled by Janine Dooner.

Steve and Sue Bale’s Pembroke Corgis Balletcor Ravenswood and Balletcor Winters Roses topped the brace stakes under Kurt Nilsson, with second place awarded to Catherine Halpin’s Welsh Springer Spaniel duo Sh Ch Redfrith Gift Wrapped For Moonlone and Sh Ch Moonlone Travelling Man.

It was the BIS4 winning Old English Sheepdog, Colm and Rose Hastings’ Ch Lambluvs Irish Brew who topped Group 1 under Stanley Shen, with the runner-up spot taken by Patrick Fortune and Emilio Castillo’s Shetland Sheepdog Ch & Lux Ch Navarrem Fortune Lady.

Fabrizio La Rocca judged the terriers in Group 3, awarding top spot to the Kerry Blue Terrier, Carmel Clarke-O’Neill’s Lemracdream Field Of Dreams. Runner-up was Marie Hogarty’s Cairn Terrier Ch Cadagio Don’t Stop Me Now.

Heading the Dachshunds in Group 4 under Siret Lepasaar was Karen Weir’s Kaninchen Smooth Ch Magik Rainbow Gloria. Second was Caroline Reynolds’ Smooth Ch & Mys Ch Hacienda Better Tell Dad.

Donal Neally’s Group 5 winner was Maureen and Brian Carroll’s Keeshond Ch & Int Ch Lyntova Legend Has It, with the runner-up spot taken by Sean Carroll and James Newman’s Pomeranian Belliver Kiss The Stars.

Taking first place in Group 6 was Barry O’Neill’s Basset Hound Ch, GB & Int Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, ‘Arthur’ having a day to remember as he had also topped the Champion Stakes earlier in the day. Stuart Pearson and Caroline Dodds took second place with their Dalmatian Ch & GB Ch Kelevra Classic Cliché.

Noreen Harris judged Group 7 where her winner, Tom and Annie Mervyn’s German Shorthaired Pointer Sh Ch Tomanipoint Celtic Knight, went on to BIS3. Taking the runner-up spot was Jim and Karen Gibson’s Weimaraner Sh Ch Zilverein Oops I Forgot My Boots.

Marko Lepasaar’s Group 8 winner’s rosette went to the visiting English Springer Spaniel, Jane Eyeington’s Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Meadowvale Chaos. In second place today was Mary and Martin O’Donoghue’s Labrador Retriever Sh Ch Philipstown Atlantic Breeze.

American judge Darryl Vice judged Group 9, sending forward the Papillon, Sean Carroll and James Newman’s Ch, GB, Cz & Ger Ch Hundebuden’s Juno Pondabudens, en route to RBIS. In second place was Sally Burns, Mary Coghlan and Lesley Howard’s Toy Poodle Ch Grayco Poetic Image.

Stanley Shen also judged Group 10, finding his winner in Stephen Minogue and Ann Cuthbert’s Borzoi Ch & Int Ch Donskoi Asmodey. In second place was Kate Harbinson’s Saluki Ch & Int Ch Ulmarra Moet And Chandon With Actolia, the BIS winner at Limerick, and handled junior handler Sara Cushley.

Four of the visiting Tralee judges took the opportunity of sitting in the trophy tent to wait to judge their respective groups, thus sheltering from the sudden showers. They are l-r: Massimo Inzoli from Italy who judged Group 2, sending through the eventual BIS winning Newfoundland, his fellow countryman Fabrizio La Rocca who judged Group 3, Noreen Harris from Australia who was the Group 7 judge, and Kurt Nilsson from Sweden who had judged BIS at Limerick two days earlier and was the stakes judge here at Tralee.
