TRALEE '15 BEST IN SHOW
From an entry of 1,464 dogs, with a panel of multi-national judges supplemented by some homegrown talent, coming out on top at the end of the last day was the Bullmastiff, Seamus Magee and Lisa Sweeney’s Ch Bullmeredith Captain Rowlo of Tarbhore, Ann Ingram, one of Ireland’s most respected all-breeds judges, decided that RBIS should go to the Bull Terrier, Michele Sineri’s Ch Cosmopolitan Space Oddity Moonflower, in Ireland with Ger and Laura Cox. The Bullmastiff ‘Gus’, now third in the standings for the Gain Petfoods/Irish Canine Press/Dog World group 2 Leaderboard, took G2 at Killarney on Tuesday, repeating his win from Kilkenny in July, and he also has a G4 from Deise. Meanwhile ‘Georgio’, the Bull Terrier from Sicily, won the breed specialty at the recent World Show and has only been in Ireland for a few weeks, winning at Coleraine just the week before the Circuit, his second show in Ireland. He was G3 at Killarney earlier in the week.

TRALEE '15 PUPPY STAKES
After his BIS appointment at Limerick, Carlos Saevich was judge for the stakes classes at Tralee and his puppy stakes winner and qualifier for the Irish Pup of the Year final next Easter was Sandra Williams’ Miniature Smooth Dachshund Wilmerella Wells Fargo; nine-month-old ‘Dennis’, already with several BPIB awards at home in GB and RCC at Leeds, went on to take GS, BOB and G2. Runner-up was Kevin and Lisa Croarkin’s French Bulldog Kesasonas Little Elsa, nine-month-old ‘Elsa’ already a GS winner and she was BBPIS earlier this year at the Toy show.

Carlos Saevich’s champion stakes winner was Sue and Ralph Holmes’ Siberian Husky Ch Suraliam Walking On Sunshine, five-year-old ‘Naria’ recently BIS at the club championship show. In second place was Caryn Coogan’s Pug Ch Kingpoint Where Them Girls Are, ‘Jarppi’, a Finnish import, was runner-up Pup of the Year a couple of years ago.

Topping the veteran stakes under Carlos Saevich was Michael Kenneally and Mairead Jones’ Weimaraner Sh Ch & Int Ch Zilverein Wanda Rinn to Minama, with second place to Pamela and Ryan Hunter’s Whippet Ch, GB & Int Ch Mossbawnhill It’s All Bout Me.

It was Stuart Pearson and Carole Dodds’ Dalmatians who caught judge Carlos Saevich’s eye in the brace stakes with runner-up spot going to Ann McDonald’s Giant Schnauzers, both these pairs having a successful Circuit week.

Heading the team stakes under Carlos Saevich was Karen Rimmer’s team of well-behaved Parson Russell Terriers.
TRALEE '15 GROUP 1
Philip Behan, chairman of the Irish Kennel Club General Purposes Committee, was ring centre for group 1 and he declared best the Old English Sheepdog, Joe Dempsey’s Ch Bellablue Bewitched by Scallywag. ‘Bubble’, a Pup of the Year qualifier and BIS at the breed club championship show last year, is prepared and handled by Joe’s wife Pia, and was winning her second group of the week, her first on Tuesday at Killarney. Mervyn Webb handled his and wife Ann’s Shetland Sheepdog Daisyway Skyrock of Milesend to take G2. ‘Tracy’ won her class at Crufts this year, shortly after coming to live in Ireland with the Webbs following a successful puppy career and some maternal duties, and is now collecting green stars.

Diane Anderson from the US was judging group 2 and found her winner in Seamus Magee and Lisa Sweeney’s Bullmastiff Ch Bullmeredith Captain Rowlo of Tarbhore, en route to BIS, with Andrea Stubbs and Mossy Lenihan’s Rottweiler Ch Cotarinn Fright Night, handled by breeder Jackie Stubbs, G2. ‘Tyson’ who was BIS at ILKA in July was to go on to clinch his GB title within a month.

The terriers of group 3 were judged by Dr Michael Woods from the US who gave the nod to the Bull Terrier, Michele Sineri’s Ch Cosmopolitan Space Oddity Moonflower, who finished RBIS. Melanie Corcoran’s multiple CC-winning Staffordshire Bull Terrier Ch, GB & Int Ch Zakstaff Whats The Story at Molru, was second, ‘Rory’ the group winner at ILKA.

Topping the Dachshunds of group 4 under Italian judge Alessandro Zeppi was Marion, Tim and Ian Finney’s Miniature Wire Ch Dom Perignon Vitoraz, ‘Jiri’, bred in the Czech Republic, winning his first group. Roger and Sandra Williams, perhaps better known for their top winning Cocker Spaniels, took runner-up spot with their Miniature Smooth Wilmerella Wells Fargo, today’s puppy stakes winner.

Dr Woods also judged group 5 and here he sent on to the final ten Stephen Minogue’s Japanese Shiba Inu Jiltrain Jackpott, ‘Jackson’ already a BIS winner from Hibernian, BIS3 from IKC CW and now with four groups under his young belt. He was also crowned Irish Pup of the Year at Easter. Liz Wogan’s Keeshond Ch & GB Ch Neradmik Beach Boy avec Deminiac was runner-up; ‘Wilson’, who is a champion stakes winner, won the groups at ILKA and Newtownards, where he was BIS3.

Csaba Zsolt Lokodi was also judging at Tralee and his group 6 winner was the eventual BIS4 winning Basset Hound, Barry O’Neill’s Ch, GB & Int Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, with Ivor and Michelle Keelan’s Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Ch Afterglow Chunkey Monkey of Tejas, group winner at Kilkenny, runner-up.

Josie Foley was judging another Circuit group, this time group 7, and she gave the red rosette to Jim and Karen Gibson, Heidi Warren and Phillip Palmer’s American imported Weimaraner Sh Ch Northwoods Applebees Money Talks at Zilverein, a first group win this year for ‘Loot’, with the German Wirehaired Pointer Ch, Sh Ch & Int Ch Kimmax Krystal Klear of Beechillawn yet again taking G2 spot for Seamus and Maura Gettings.

French judge Sylvie Desserne was in charge of group 8 where she chose for the top spot Kerry Brennan’s Cocker Spaniel Kerrijoy Sirocco, an open show BIS winner and today winning his first championship show group, with Jayne Johns and John and Doreen Barton’s Portuguese Water Dog GB Ch Auldhelm Absolutely in second spot, five-year-old ‘Harris’ taking his sixth GS and at home he has five CCs.

John R Walsh judged group 9 where his winner was the eventual BIS3-winning Toy Poodle, Lesley Howard, Mary Coghlan and Sally Burns’ Ch Grayco Splash The Cash, followed by Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frisé Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Act, the Coleraine BIS winner, in second place.

Topping group 10 under Csaba Zsolt Lokodi was Emer Mooney’s Deerhound Ch Rosslyn Quartet, handled as usual by Katie Kelly; ‘Elsie’ already has a group from Combined at Easter, with other placings to take her to third on the Gain Petfoods/Irish Canine Press/Dog World group 10 Leaderboard, and she took the CC and BOB at Crufts and East of England this year as well. Second was Lyn Appleby, John Minchin, Jane Edwards and Mary Mulvaney’s Afghan Hound Ch & Int Ch Davashey To Tell The Truth, group winner at Portadown.

So disappointing for the final show of the week as the rain arrived just in time for lunch – and when it rains here, it really rains. However, tents and brollies are a great boon at Irish shows, and everyone carries on regardless. Happily much of the breed judging was complete.
