TRALEE '12 BEST IN SHOW
Joan Walsh, Secretary of the Combined Canine Club International show and the Pup of the Year and IKC Treasurer was judge elect to award Best in Show at Tralee & District’s 40th Championship show. From the ten group winners lined up, her choice fell to Willie and Joanne Mullen’s Irish Wolfhound, homebred Ch Broughadowey Tir Eoghain Jun Ch. This was 2 year old ‘Cooper’s’ first BIS victory and what a week he was having on the Circuit with group victory at Killarney, Gp 4 at Limerick and now going all the way at Tralee. RBIS under Joan was another native Irish breed, Cathy Neill and Cara Davani’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Ch Kebulak Dirty Harry, following on from his group win at Limerick two days previously, and today taking group number 5 this year.

Joan Walsh also was tasked with selecting Best Baby Puppy in Show and from the BBP in Breed winners, she chose as her BBPIS, Martin Steele and Leanne Carpenter’s Bulldog, homebred Chelseapride Makalele, handled by Stephen Minogue, with runner-up spot going to Kieran Behan’s Chow Chow, Mingfield Close Call, nice to see both winners homebred.
TRALEE '12 CHAMPION STAKES
Christina Rossier’s Champion Stakes winner at Tralee was Austin and Ann Long Doyle’s St Bernard, Ch Il Divo Roly By Longsdyle, another dog having a great week as he was the group winner and BIS 3 at Clonmel; runner-up was Adele Kerrisk’s Shar Pei, Ch Chuanfa Compact At Qing Iverna.

Swiss judge, Christina Rossier the Puppy Stakes. From the 88 hopefuls entered, she chose as her winner Michael Carr’s Boxer, Moydrum Quality Act, almost 10 months old, he was Reserve BBPIS back at Easter at Combined International and now goes on to the POTY Final next Easter. Runner-up was Fealy’s Newfoundland, Blacktide Heaven Knows.

Topping the Veteran Stakes at Tralee under Christina Rossier was Duncan’s 8 year old Welsh Springer Spaniel, Sh Ch Redfrith Chianti, with Ger & Mary Hickey’s Finnish Spitz, 9 year old Ch Kilconnell Cheekie Tovorla, in 2nd place.

Making it a clean sweep for Circuit week, the Brace Stakes winners were again Harrison’s Skye Terriers, Knowlespring Jailhouse Roc For Trenson and Ch Papplewick Knockando For Trenson under Stakes judge, Christina Rossier.

Kresten Scheel from Denmark was judge elect for Group 1 where his winner was the eventual BIS 3 winning Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Sarah Matthews’ Ch & GB Ch Maplecreek Beach Bunny At Craigycor, handled by husband Alan; the runner-up rosette was awarded to Eoin Fleetwood and Patricia Kavanagh’s Bearded Collie, Firstprizebears John FK, Patricia in charge this time as it was Eoin who had piloted ‘Oscar’ to group success earlier this year at ILKA.

Kresten Scheel also judged Group 2, finding his victor in Dione Fitsimons’ Dobermann Pinscher, homebred Ch Fitzkin Eternal Elegance, a first group victory this year after runner-up spot at Deise and G3 at Limerick, with in second place, Andrea Cleary’s Rottweiler, Ch Cuchulain The Brave, fresh from his RBIS success at Limerick just 2 days previously.

Heading up the terriers in Group 3 under USA judge Merle Taylor was Cathy Neill and Cara Davani’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Ch Kebulak Dirty Harry, en route to Reserve BIS, with the runner-up rosette going to Ger and Laura Cox’s Bull Terrier, Megaville Plenty More, a fifth group placing for ‘Charlie’ and the group winner earlier this year at Banbridge.

Topping the Dachshunds in Group 4 under Anne Buvik from Norway was Seamus Dunne and Sharon Shone’s Miniature Wire, Ch Hanishan Solitaire, stepping up from her runner-up spot at Clonmel earlier in the week while runner-up here at Tralee was the Standard Wire, Rollison’s Nosinllor Artemis, a first group placing for this Devon based bitch.

Ruth Wagner from Luxembourg judged Group 5, finding her winner in Fran Murphy’s BIS 4 winning American Akita, Ch Russcuragh’s All Or Nothing, ‘Theo’ a former POTY qualifier and here taking a first group victory of the year following several group placings. Runner-up spot went to Jimmy Duggan’s Siberian Husky, Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart For Leorient, handled by wife Anita, ‘Flint’ the BIS winner at both Dundalk and Monkstown a few weeks earlier.

Lynda Cuthbert-Matthews, well known for her top winning Whippets and Borzois, was in charge of Group 6 where her winner was Gwen Huikeshoven’s Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, Tarmachan Albanwr, stepping up from his 2nd place wins at both Clonmel and Limerick and runner-up today was the Somerset based Beagle bitch, Hargrave’s Valsacre Vista, taking a first group placing.

Italian judge, Claudio Giuliani officiated Group 7 where his winner was Catherine Kelly’s Hungarian Vizsla, Sh Ch & Lux Ch Risley Mark The Moment, handled by Jane Anthony, ‘Marco’ taking a first group victory of the year after many group placings and a CV that includes several BIS wins last year; runner-up was another G7 regular, Maura and Seamus Gettings’ German Wire Haired Pointer, Sh Ch & Int Sh Ch Kimmax Krystal Klear Of Beechillawn, group winner earlier this year at Cork and today taking a seventh group spot.

Finnish judge, Mr Rune Fagerstrom was centre ring for Group 8, selecting for his winner, Joe Caulfield and Joanne Furlong’s Irish Water Spaniel, Sh Ch & Int Sh Ch Fynder On Shifting Ground, 4 year old ‘Marley’, RBIS at Killarney, heading up the G8 ICP/Connolly’s RED MILLS Leaderboard by virtue of his 11th group victory of the year and third of the Circuit, with in second place, regular Circuit visitors, Sandra and Roger Williams with their Cocker Spaniel, Su Ch & Sh Ch Mannacas Cutting Corners.

Lionel Prouve handled the Tibetan Spaniel, Ch & GB Ch Avigdor Jarko, to win Group 9 under Birte Scheel from Denmark. ‘Jarko’, who was RCC at Crufts ’11, is just one of the International winners from Tony Moran’s Avigdor kennels based in Tramore in Co Waterford. Second was Eamon Keenan’s home bred Lhasa Apso, multi BOB winning Ch Heneva The Headliner for Keoma Jun Ch, who was also G 2nd at Swords and took a 4th at Dundalk.

Topping Group 10 under Claudio De Giuliani, who had judged BIS two days previously at Limerick, was ‘Cooper’ the Irish Wolfhound that he was delighted to see go onto take BIS, Willie and Joanne Mullen’s Ch Broughadowey Tir Eoghain Jun Ch, with David and Valerie Best’s Whippet, Slaneyfinn Fennel Jun Ch, taking the 2nd rosette and a first group placing, handled by David.
