Ch Jamarow Northern Star handled by owner Darren Griffin, triumphed in the BIS ring at sunny Swords Ch Show under judge, Jerry Daly, of Ennafort Norwegian Elkhound fame. ‘Robbie’ had earlier won BOB under German all breeds judge, Hans Gruttner, then taken Group 2 under June Wall, known for her Everready Rottweilers. Reserve BIS was the Tibetan Spaniel, Sharon O’Brien’s Ch, GB & Int Ch Rosanley the Adonis at Torfness, recently Res World Winner’15 in Milan. Number one Tibbie in both the UK and Ireland in ’13 & ’14, ‘Buddy’ currently has 17 CCs and is a multi-group & BIS winner.

Best Baby Puppy in Show under BIS judge, Jerry Daly, was the Cocker Spaniel, Linda Bailie’s Thornbrook Miss Moneypenny, ‘Carter’ just 5 months old, with the Basset Hound, Jim and Debbie Irvine’s Emmorah All Right Now, Reserve. ‘Eric’ is 4 months, so both starting young collecting rosettes.

Melanie Corcoran’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, multi CC winning Ch, GB & Int Ch Zakstaff Whats The Story at Molru, won the Champion Stakes at Swords under Noel Beggs. ‘Rory’ has 9 CCs over the water and is the Breed Record holder in Ireland with 55 Green Stars and quite a few groups to boot. The runner-up was Ciaran and Ann Marie Donnelly & Billy & Josh Henderson’s Dobermann Pinscher, multi group & BIS winner, Ch & GB Ch Tuwos Hrana, ‘Maebh’ another with a large collection of tickets.

Gert Christensen from Denmark judged Group 1 where his winner was the eventual BIS4 winning German Shepherd Dog, Emer O’Sullivan’s Balko Von Armen, with Jean, Paul and Kelly Lawless’ homebred BSD Groenendael, Ch & GB Ch Revloch Figo, handled by Kelly, taking 2nd spot.

June Wall of the Everready Rottweilers & Standard Poodles judged Group 2 and she found her winner in the eventual BIS winning Boxer, Darren Griffin and Paul Keenan’s Ch Jamarow Northern Star, with Rose Dooley’s Great Dane, homebred Ch Ballyfrawley Poker Face, taking the rosette for runner-up, repeating his win at Portadown.

The terriers of Group 3 were judged by well known Irish Terrier aficionado Hans Gruttner from Germany, who found his winner in Ross Delmar and Ewa Lunden’s’s Smooth Fox Terrier, Swe, Nor, DK & Int Ch Residentsets Stand-In, on his way to BIS 3, while his second place went to Marie Hogarty’s Cairn Terrier, homebred Cadagio Don’t Stop Me, a first group placing for this young dog.

Markku Kilpina was over from Finland and judged the Dachshunds of Group 4, his winner being the Miniature Wire Haired, Benita Morrison’s homebred Benzden Guilty For Him, a first group win for 15 months old ‘George’ who had earlier won his 2nd Green Star. Gerry McFaul’s well known Long Haired, Ch & GB Ch Dachville Special Blend, took the 2nd place rosette.

Heading up Group 5 under Vitor Veiga from Portugal was the Keeshond, Maureen and Brian Carroll’s Ch & Int Ch Lyntova Legend; ‘Jackson’ with Group 2nd at both South Tipperary and Munster Canine, is third on the GAIN Petfoods/Irish Canine Press/Dog World Top Winners Leaderboard. The Chow Chow, Olive Taylor’s Ch Chivas Royal Djalo at Taylorian, was runner-up.

Gert Christensen was ring centre for Group 6 where he chose as his winner Eamon Murray’s Beagle, Heathergrove Caravola, Group winner at Fermoy International and 2nd at South Tipperary, with a BIS at the Irish Collie Open, ‘Piper’is just 13 months old and has 7 Green Stars but is too young to claim his title.. Pamela Lennon handled the family’s Basset Hound, Zanabek Awesome Jun Ch, to take 2nd.

Group 7 was in the hands of Portuguese Gundog Specialist Rui Goncalves and he gave his winner’s rosette to Dee Rance’s Irish Setter, Mayfred Mr Magnifico, 5 years old ‘Finn’, who had travelled from Dunfermline in Scotland was in the group in Ireland for the first time. Stephen Kennedy handled his Weimaraner, Sh Ch Zilverein Straight No Chazer Jun Ch, to take Group 2nd.

It was certainly a worthwhile ferry trip from Scotland for Dee Rance. Having won G 7 with her Irish Setter, she proceeded to ‘clean up’ in the gundogs when her Irish Water Spaniel, Weemaes Pipers Piping at Mayfred, won Group 8 under Andrzej Stephinski from Poland. Kerry Duncan was over on one of her many visits too, and she won 2nd in the group with her Welsh Springer Spaniel, Redfrith Jack of Diamonds; ‘Freddie’ had won his seventh Green Star earlier under Rui Goncalves.

Gabriella Veiga from Portugal, a Chihuahua and Whippet specialist, judged Group 9 finding her winner in the ‘Buddy’, Sharon O’Brien’s Tibetan Spaniel, Ch, GB & Int Ch Rosanley The Adonis at Torfness, on his was to Reserve Best in Show and she gave the 2nd spot to Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frise, Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Act, now with 6 CCs over the water and here at home he is a multi Group & BIS winner.

Group 10 judge was Jim Daidone from Australia, and his final choice fell to the Irish Wolfhound, Gerry and Pauline Clarke’s Lady Rose of Shantamon, 'Rose' currently heads the GAIN Petfpoods/Irish Canine Press/Dog World Group Leaderboard. Maureen Wade’s top winning Italian Greyhound, Ch & Int Ch Turigner Wind In The Willows Jun Ch, CC bitch winner at Crufts last year, was runner-up.

There were the usual three JHA age classes at Swords with an overall winner chosen by judge, Nadine Bermingham, herself Ireland Top Junior Handler for the last three years. Her winner was Danielle Ritch Smith from the 13-14 years class and they are seen here with Mary Davidson of sponsors, ROYAL CANIN, and Tom Hehir, Chairman of Swords CC.

It was great to see the Royal Canin hospitality unit at Swords, the first time in many years that it has been over to Ireland, the last time being before the Euro Show in 2009. Breeder Club members were able to have refreshments and make their orders in comfort and new members greeted and made welcome.
