SOUTH TIPPERARY '16 BEST IN SHOW
Barry O’Neill’s homebred Basset Hound Ch, GB & Int Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy completed a historic ‘triple crown’ on the ‘Trip To Tipp’ when he went best in show for the second year in succession at South Tipperary championship show adding to his BIS win at Fermoy in 2014. Six-year-old ‘Arthur’, who had recently won his tenth CC at WELKS, came through both the breed and group under Australian judge Sandra Mashford. BIS judge was Carmel Barry-Sheehan, well known for her involvement in Afghan Hounds and Salukis. Reserve BIS went to Felicity Thompson’s Whippet Barnesmore Hell’s Belles, also sent through the breed and group by Sandra. Two-year-old ‘Belle’ has been only lightly shown in Ireland and today was taking her fourth green star and first group.

Jimmy Duggan’s Siberian Husky bitch Leorient What Goes Around won Best Baby Puppy In Hhow under BIS judge Carmel Barry-Sheehan; ‘Karma’ winning this award for the second day running and at her second show, handled by Jimmy’s wife Anita as usual. Reserve BBPIS was the Whippet, Barbara Hurley’s Barnesmore Flashman.

Stakes judge at South Tipperary was Vincent O’Brien and one of his most important tasks was to select the qualifier for the Irish Pup of the Year from the entry of 47 hopefuls. He eventually gave the ticket to the Toy Poodle from England, Leanne Bryant and breeders Kay Ryan and Ann Ingram’s Tirkane Constellation. Runner-up was the Dobermann Dobshangrila Rasputin at Camarin, owned by Marie Carberry and handled by Stephen Richardson.
SOUTH TIPPERARY '16 JUNIOR STAKES
Topping the Junior Stakes at South Tipperary under Vincent O’Brien was the Shetland Sheepdog, Brenda and Joe Doyle’s Sevenoaks Penny Heaven, 12-month-old ‘Penny’ was the puppy stakes winner at Combined National at Easter. Runner-up spot here was the Irish Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier Celtannia Extra Confident at Kinaelan, 15-month-old ‘Saoirse’ owned by Bev Hanna and handled by Brian Moles.

In the Champion Stakes Vincent O’Brien found for his winner the Lakeland Terrier, Catherine and Tina Broaders’ Ch Brookside Aristocrat, last year’s group winner at Sligo and Bull Breeds where he finished BIS4. Runner-up was the Whippet, Steven O’Brien, daughter Stephanie Robertson and her daughter Fiona’s Ch Sheol Golden Child, ‘Orla’, who has one CC and was group 10 winner last year at Irish Ladies.

Vincent also judged the Veteran Stakes, giving the red rosette to the Golden Retriever Goldenheights Christmas Rose. Theresa O’Brien’s eight-year-old ‘Pasha’ also became a Veteran Champion on the day. The Kaninchen Wire Dachshund, Tim, Marion and Ian Finney’s Ch & Int Ch Nice One for Vitoraz to Guliagh, handled by Ian, was second.

The Shetland Sheepdogs, Milesend Set The Trend and Daisyway Skyrock of Milesend, owned by Mervyn and Ann Webb, won the brace stakes under Vincent O’Brien.

Freddie Klindrup from Denmark judged group 1 with top honours going to David McKenna’s Bouvier des Flandres Ch Nikolaev Tyrion At Davdeir, for the second year in succession. Second here was the Polish Lowland Sheepdog, Jacqui and Brian Gibson’s Ch, GB & Int Ch Mybeards Izabella at Quinnabeth.

Keith Lovell from Australia judged group 2, giving the top place to the Dobermann, Ann Moore’s Rozenyas Playin With Fire; ‘Jaxx’ was made up to a champion today. Runner-up was the Rottweiler, Andrea Stubbs and Mossy Lenihan’s Ch & GB Ch Cotarinn Fright Night, handled by co-breeder Jackie Stubbs.

Topping group 3 under Norwegian judge Leif Ragnar Hjorth was Ross Delmar and Ewa Lunden’s Smooth Fox Terrier Multi Ch Residensets Stand-In, ‘Stanley’ taking his second group on consecutive days. Second place was awarded to the Kerry Blue Terrier, Jim Corbin, Philip O’Brien and Jarka Poulova’s Edbrios Silverado.

Cristian Stefanescu’s group 4 winner was Gerry McFaul’s top winning Longhaired Dachshund Ch & GB Ch Dachville Special Blend, ‘Jill’ adding yet another group win to her already impressive collection, with second place going to Martin McDonnell’s Miniature Long Ch Smartdac Rising Phoenix.

Stephen Minogue’s Japanese Shiba Inu Ch Jiltrain Jackpott, the eventual BIS 4 winner, was Ashleigh Griffn’s choice to top group 5 with second spot going to Liz Wogan’s Keeshond Ch, GB & Int Ch Neradmik Beach Boy Avec Deminiac.

Dr Tamas Jakkel was centre-ring for group 7, awarding the winner’s rosettes to Stewart Cummings and Karen McKelvey’s Irish Setter Caemgen’s For Heavens Sake at Edenavey. Runner-up spot was taken by Jim and Karen Gibson’s Weimaraner Sh Ch Zilverein Oops I Forgot My Boots.

GB judge Jenny Miller did group 8 where her winner was Ralph Dunne’s Clumber Spaniel, Sh Ch Richley Royale Bond. Taking second place under Jenny was Leanne Bryant, Lisa Nelson and Beverley Morris’ American Cocker Spaniel Am Ch Silhouette Troubling Nasailleen with Mycalleys.

Heading group 9 under Pietro Paolo Condo was Sean Carroll and James Newman’s Papillon Ch, Cz & Ger Ch Hundebuden’s Juno Pondabudens who went on to BIS3 later in the day, with the runner-up slot filled by the Toy Poodle, Ann Ingram, Kay Ryan, Leanne Bryant and Lisa Nelson’s GB Ch Nasaileen Notorious At Tirkane, ‘Mick’ with five CCs including Crufts to his name.
