Best in Show judge at Sligo was Chris Laverty and he chose for his Best In Show Ann Ingram, Kay Ryan, Marlies Morzik, Lisa Nelson and Leanne Bryant's homebred Toy Poodle, Ch & GB Ch Tirkane The Big Issue. Reserve BIS winner was the Pomeranian, Sean Carroll and James Newman’s Ch & GB Ch Belliver The Ultimate Creation. The show, which attracted over 1,000 dogs, was sponsored by Dr Clauder, represented here by Stewart Carson.

Topping the champion stakes at Sligo under Philip O’Brien was Liam and Brian Moran’s group-winning Golden Retriever Sh Ch Woodmore Ringo Starr, with Guyte Morkute, Pat and David Foley’s Rottweiler Ch Joshabelle I’m Gorgeous And I Know It at Zarimus taking second place.

Philip O’Brien, well known for his Edbrios Kerry Blue Terriers, judged the puppy stakes where his winner, qualifying for the Irish POTY final, was Gyte Morkute and Pat and David Foley’s Rottweiler Rosamic The Journey Starts Here, eight months old ‘Alexa’ already a green star winner and best minor puppy in show at the Rottweiler Club of Ireland. Taking second place was Sue and Ralph Holmes’ Siberian Husky, eight months old Suraliam Eye Of The Storm.

Catherine and Tina Broaders’ Wire Fox Terrier Ch/Int Ch Crystalwire Solo of Brookside was Philip O’Brien’s choice to win the veteran stakes at Sligo with David McKenna’s Bouvier des Flandres Ch Nikolaev Colorado at Davdeir taking second place.
SLIGO '14 BRACE STAKES
Topping the brace stakes under Philip O’Brien was P J Donovan’s duo of Shih Tzus, Liberty from Audreys Paradis and Sheepham Golden Harrogate, with the runner-up place to O’Sullivan’s Cocker Spanies, Sh Ch Chavez Gaelic Connection at Forestpine and Forestpine A Starry Dream To Cherish.

Cathrina Dunne, well known for her Longrange Shetland Sheepdogs, judged group 1, awarding top slot to Gabrielle Dunne’s German Shepherd Dog Ch/Int Ch Rono Vom Bierstrader Hof, seven years old ‘Rono’ handled to a first group victory by husband Anthony. Runner-up was Emilio Castillo and Patrick Fortune’s Shetland Sheepdog Ch Navarrem Fortune Lady, group winner at Bangor and Tralee last year.>

Group 2 was judged by visiting South African Timmy Ralf, whose winner was Paul Keenan and Darren Griffin’s Boxer Jamarow Northern Star at Bessbox, who then went on to BIS3. In second place came Paul and Linda Magee’s Great Dane, handled by daughter Molly, homebred Clonallan Second Chance, her second group placing of the year.

Topping group 3 under Canadian judge Valerie Gervais was Ross Delmar’s Smooth Fox Terrier Ch/Int Ch Shillelagh Smooth Operator, ‘Balloo’ then advancing to BIS4 later in the day. In second place was Joe Devlin’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier Aymstaff Akilah, repeating her second place at Fermoy international earlier in the year.

The Dachshunds in group 4 were judged by Lotte Gemmeker from Spain; her winner was Marion, Tim and Ian Finney’s Miniature Wire Gulliagh Salsa, 16 months old and handled by Ian to a first group success; taking second place was Michael Crowley’s Smooth Ch Elanors Surprise at Donnamarc.

Jean Lawless, taking a break from showing her and husband Paul’s top winning Revloch Belgians, was centre ring for group 5, awarding top spot to the eventual RBIS-winning Pomeranian, James Newman and Sean Carroll’s Ch/GB/Int Ch Belliver The Ultimate Creation with the runner-up rosette awarded to Jimmy Duggan’s multi Group and BIS-winning Siberian Husky Ch/GB/Int Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart for Leorient.

Lotte Gemmeker also judged group 6, awarding the group to Ivor and Michelle Keelan’s Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Ch Afterglow Chunkey Monkey at Tejas, the RBIS winner at Newtownards and today taking his fifth group this year. Second place went to Halliday’s Rhodesian Ridgeback Kalunda Blue Yonder, a first group placing.

Heading group 7 under American judge Gary Anderson was Lesley Belcher’s five-year-old Italian Spinone Sh Ch Netis Rock With You at Sosteli, a first group victory, with Cathy Loughlin’s Irish Setter, Sh Ch Thendara Jefferson Among Rohanmor, taking a second group placing of the year as runner-up.

Gary Anderson also judged group 8 where his winner was Frances McGookin’s American Cocker Spaniel Ch Junior King Brown Flymystery, a second group win of the year after group victory earlier in the year at Portadown, with second place awarded to Jeanette Filskov’s Golden Retriever Sh Ch/GB/Dan/Int Sh Ch Abinvale Traguardo, ‘Blue’, handled by co-breeder Emma Archibald, group winner at Munster and ILKA, is heading the ICP/Royal Canin Leaderboard after this placing.

It was Rune Lysgaard from Norway who sent through to eventual BIS success the Toy Poodle, Ann Ingram, Kay Ryan, Marlies Morzik, Lisa Nelson and Leanne Bryant’s Ch/GB Ch Tirkane The Big Issue, second place going to another of this year’s BIS winners, Sharon O’Brien’s Tibetan Spaniel Ch/GB Ch Rosanley The Adonis At Torfness, successful at both Hibernian and Kilkenny.

Inga Sill from Estonia was centre ring for group 10 where her winner was Carla Bollard O’Callaghan’s Afghan Hound Ch/GB/Int Ch Ashahni Amir, taking his fifth group of the year which also saw him RBIS at Munster Canine and Bray. In second place was Albert Ritchie and granddaughter Danielle’s Whippet Demerlay Vanilla Sky Over Gewndariff, a second runner-up spot of the year.
