NEWTOWNARDS '12 BEST IN SHOW
Marleen Collins was the Best in Show judge at Newtownards on a wild and windy, wet and cold, Sunday 13th May, and from her line-up, she chose for her winner, Joyce Manton’s Italian imported Australian Shepherd Dog, Ch & Int Ch Hopscoptch Del Whymper Delle G. Jorasses, handled by husband, Des, thus making history for the breed in Ireland, this being a first ever BIS at an all breed Ch show for an Aussie. ‘Gaby’ had earlier won her second group under Erica Bakker van de Woestijne, a collie breeds specialist from The Netherlands who had also judged the breed. Reserve BIS was the Papillon, James Newman’s top winning Ch, GB, Ger, Slov & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben, who coped so well with the conditions for such a tiny dog. ‘Ruben’ had won Group 9 under UK Toy specialist, Peter Jolley.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 BEST BABY PUPPY IN SHOW
Best Baby Puppy in Show was judged by Marleen Collins and she had a good number of ‘babies’ to chose from, all going through their paces like seasoned veterans, despite the wind and rain. The eventual winner was the Boxer, John Francis’ Rathbride Final Fantasy, with Olive Taylor’s Chow Chow, Cladev’s Starstruck with Taylorian, who was BBPIS at Banbridge, 2nd.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 CHAMPION STAKES
From 18 entries in the Champion Stakes, Philip Behan awarded the winner’s rosette to James Newman and ‘Ruben’, Ch, GB, Slo, Ger & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben, the Papillon, RBIS on the day, and last year’s winner of the Champion of Champion finals. Jimmy Duggan’s Siberian Husky, Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart for Leorient, ‘Flint’ recently BIS at Working/Pastoral Breeds of Wales, and handled by wife, Anita, was 2nd.

In the Champion Stakes, Philip Behan awarded the winner’s rosette to James Newman and ‘Ruben’, Ch, GB, Slov, Ger & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben, the Papillon.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 PUPPY STAKES
Philip Behan judged all the Stakes at Newtownards, and from 41 entries in the Puppy Stakes his winner was Sally Burns and Mary Coghlan’s white Standard Poodle bitch, Sarnia Magic Once More at Valentine, already a multiple Green Star winner, with the runner-up spot going to Paul Keenan & Darren Griffin’s Boxer dog, Jamarow Northern Star.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 VETERAN STAKES
Philip Behan judged the Veteran Stakes and victory for Lyn Appleby, John Minchin and Jane Edwards’ Afghan, Ch Kazdanavad Karlo Rossi put him clear at the head of the ICP/Royal Canin Veteran of the Year Leaderboard. In second place was Veronica Coutts’ Wire Fox Terrier, Laural Boy.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 BRACE STAKES
Philip Behan’s Brace Stakes winner was another for Angela and Emma Willis’ Giant Schanuzer duo, Ch Jannem Boy George Jun Ch and Jannem Munire, brother and sister from a repeat mating, and now with a great collection of red rosettes from these stakes.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 GROUP 1
Joyce Manton’s Australian Shepherd Dog, Ch & Int Ch Hopscotch Del Whymper Delle G. Jorasses, handled by Des Manton, won Group 1 under Netherlands judge, Mrs Erica Bakker-van de Woestijne; ‘Gaby’ was the group winner last year Bray, where she had won the Ch Stakes a year previously, and today went on to Best in Show. Marie & Norman Magill’s Rough Collie, Camanna Coloured Confetie at Beltra Jun Ch was runner-up.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 GROUP 2
The Bullmastiff, Watercress Wacky Paddy at Galteeview Jun Ch, owned by Patrick Murphy, headed up Group 2 under Danish judge, Svend Lovenkjaer, a first Group win for both dog and owner, with Ivan McClean’s Black Russian Terrier, Ch Free Choice Czarevich Gosha Jun Ch, repeating his Banbridge placing in 2nd spot.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 GROUP 3
Cara Davani’s Kerry Blue, Kebulak Dirty Harry Jun Ch, handled by Cathy Neill, won Group 3 under Mieke Jansen-Kalshoven from The Netherlands, a prelude to taking a first CC, BOB and G4 the following week at SKC. In second place was Ron Farrelly’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Ronstaff Show Dancer, who was to go on the following week to claim her title, en route to winning the group and BIS 3.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 GROUP 4
Group 4 was judged by Ellen Blackburn well known for her Stargang Dachshunds, and she awarded top spot to Gerry McFaul’s multi CC winning Long Haired bitch, Ch & GB Ch Dachville Special Blend Jun Ch, who then went on to BIS 4. Runner-up was Lukasz Pawlowski’s Wire Haired Kaninchen, Playboy Nes Gwadiana, from Poland, handled here by Mary Allen.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 GROUP 5
Marie Bailey’s Group 5 winner was Olive Taylor’s Chow Chow, Taylorian Showgirl Jun Ch, ‘Chow Pup of the Year 2011’; ‘Lola’s’ taking a first group placing, and also claiming her Irish title as she is now over 15 months. James Newman’s Pomeranian, Ch & GB Ch Belliver The Ultimate Creation, runner up IKC Dog of the Year 2011 to her Papillon kennelmate, Ruben, took 2nd place; ‘Victoria’ is currently top Group 5 on the Leaderboard, a title she won last year.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 GROUP 6
Australian Graham Ellis judged Group 6, finding his winner in Eamon Murray’s Beagle, Ch Heathergrove Persian Warrior; ‘Tyler’ a BIS and multi group winner. Runner-up was Danny Gamble’s Dalmatian, Cannabee Commander at Mullabuoy, repeating his South Tipp placing.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 GROUP 7
Topping Group 7 under Marie Bailey was Aidan McKiernan’s English Setter, Sh Ch Richecca Reach For The Skye, handled on the day by William Dobbin Jnr, following on from his Group and BIS win at South Tipperary. In second place and repeating her second place at Fermoy Int was Seamus and Maura Gettings’ German Wire Haired Pointer, Sh Ch & Int Sh Ch Kimmax Krystal Klear at Beechillawn Jun Ch.

Ger Philpott’s Group 8 winner was Chris & Angela Hancock’s Labrador Retriever, Ch & Sh Ch Ballyhenry Hancourt Yeats Jun Ch, handled by Chris, to add to his Group victory at the IKC Celtic Winners show back in March. Runner-up was Joe Caulfield & Joanne Furlong’s Irish Water Spaniel, Sh Ch CIE Fynder On Shifting Ground Jun Ch, Group winner at CCC Int and South Tipperary.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 GROUP 9
Popular English judge Peter Jolley judged Group 9, awarding the winner’s rosette to James Newman’s Papillon, Ch, GB, Slov, Ger & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben, en route to RBIS. In second place was Patsy & Wilma McDevitt’s homebred Smooth Coat Chihuahua, Ch Keenaughts Peach Blossom Jun Ch.

NEWTOWNARDS '12 GROUP 10
Australian judge found her Group 10 winner in Carla Bollard O’Callaghan’s Afghan Hound, Ch Ashahni Amir Jun Ch, defying the windy conditions, he went on to BIS 3. In second place with a first group placing came David & Valerie Best’s Whippet, Slaneyfinn Fennel Jun Ch.
