Judging Best in Show was well known and popular secretary of Tralee, Maudie Burke, and from a good line-up she finally gave the nod to Jimmy Duggan’s Siberian Husky, Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart for Leorient. ‘Flint’ only recently returned from clinching Best in Show at Working Pastoral Breeds of Wales where he annexed his first C.C. was handled as ever by Anita Foley Duggan, who earlier this year piloted him to Group wins at both Combined International and Hibernian, and Group 2nd at Newtownards. Reserve Best in Show winner was Ross Delmar’s Smooth Fox Terrier, 17 months old Shillelagh Vasco De Gama, who also has a Group 2nd from Banbridge.

MUNSTER '12 CHAMPION STAKES
David McKenna chose for his Champion Stakes winner, Seamus & Maura Gettings’ German Wirehaired Pointer, Sh Ch Kimmax Crystal Klear of Beechillawn Jun Ch, Annual Champion for the last three years and also Celtic Winner in ’10, ’11 and ’12. ‘Krys’ was group 2nd at both Fermoy International and Newtownards. Jacqui & David Benson’s Bernese Mountain Dog, GB Ch Patrick De La Galea at Bernervalley, who took his GB crown inside just 8 weeks and was also the Triple Crown Winner in the Breed in the UK, was runner-up.

David McKenna was the judge for the Puppy Stakes and winning the Munster ticket to the POTY was Olive Taylor’s Chow Chow, Cladev’s Starstruck with Taylorian; Best Baby Puppy in Show at Banbridge and Runner up at Newtownards. Darren Griffin & Paul Keenan’s homebred Boxer, Bessbox Eura Star, handled by Fiona Carr, was runner-up.

Marie Butler judged Group 1 where she found her winner in Hollywood & Waterhouse’s Rough Collie, Amalie Lynmead Love To Hug, Group 3 at IKC Celtic Winners in March, and handled by Peter Farrell. In 2nd spot was Joe & Brenda Doyle’s Shetland Sheepdog, Ch Daliyhaa Secret Weapon at Sevenoaks, handled as usual by Brenda; he was the champion Stakes winner here last year.

Adele Kerrisk’s Shar Pei, Ch Chuanfa Compact at Qing Iverna, was Liz Wogan’s Group 2 winner; ‘Kaiser’ was Group 4th at Fermoy International. Tríona Ní Shé’s Dobermann, Ch Farentino Wot A Thriller At Ruholfia Jun Ch, owner of two CCs, was Group 2nd.

Bill McEntee judged Group 3, sending on the eventual Reserve Best in Show winning Smooth Fox Terrier, Ross Delmar’s Shillelagh Vasco De Gama, while Nicky White handled wife Ann’s Irish Glen of Imaal, Abberann Karl, to 2nd place. Karl was G4 at the IKC St Patrick’s show in March.

Gerry McFaul’s Standard Long Haired, Ch & GB Ch Dachville Distant Dream was Colette Muldoon’s Group 4 winner; ‘Dare’ a son of Gerry’s, top winning Darsoms Zwagerson. Diane Whitehouse’s Wire Haired Kaninchen, Rioban Firm Favourite, who was Group 2nd was 4th at Hibernian.

Jimmy Duggan’s Siberian Husky, Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart for Leorient Jun Ch, won Group 5 under judge, Ted Barry, who was to watch ‘Flint’ go on to BIS later. He chose for group 2nd the Russian Pomeranian, Lyudmilla Komjakova’s Pomeranian, Multi Ch Silhouettes Oh So Special, handled by Justin Carroll.

Johnny Muldoon was judge elect for Group 6 where he gave top honours to Eamon Murray’s Beagle, Ch Heathergrove Persian Warrior; Group winner at Newtownards and 2nd at Hibernian. Gail & Eddie Patterson’s Rhodesian Ridgeback, Ch Rocksham Kimweri Jun Ch, handled by Eddie, was Group 2nd; he was 4th at both IKC and Banbridge.

Ned Burke judged Group 7 where Diane Stewart-Ritchie’s Irish Setter, Gwendariff Fizzy Pop JW, took the red rosette; ‘Peaches’, was handled by her breeder, Diane. In second place was Michael Kenneally & Mairead Jones’ Weimaraner, Sh Ch & Int Ch Zilverein Wanda Rinn to Minima Jun Ch, who has enjoyed group honours on several occasions.

Bill McEntee also judged Group 8 and his winner was Liam & Brian Moran’s homebred Golden Retriever, Sh Ch Woodmore Ringo Star Jun Ch, who was both CJW & CW last year, and was Group 3rd at Combined International back at Easter. Second placed was Colm Beattie, his wife Rita and breeder Mike Bottomley’s American Cocker Spaniel, Boduf Divine; group winner at both Banbridge and Hibernian.

Raymond O’Neill judged Group 9 and he really made the day for the recently titled Tibetan Terrier, Ch Christate How U Doin Jun Ch, bred and owned by Cybel and Dermot Alford, his first group placing; following a celebration party for his title. Moira GrantCook’s Pug, Ch & Int Ch Teeko Start ‘N’ Again with Kerronmor, who topped his breed in ’09 & ’10 and was Celtic Winner 10 & 11, took Group 2nd also his first placing this year.

Johnny Muldoon judged group 10 in place of Ken Sinclair, who was unfortunately ill, and his decision gave the top spot to Carla Bollard O’Callaghan’s Afghan Hound, Ch Ashahni Amir; RBIS here in 2011, this was his 4th group so far this year. Gerry & Pauline Clarke’s homebred Irish Wolfhound, Ch Roxanne of Shantamon, was back in the ring taking Group 2nd, her first group placing this year.
