Kurt Nilsson’s BBPIS was visiting Scottish exhibitor Ellen O’Neill’s five-month-old Akita Geilsaven Miss Me Kiss Me, with RBBPIS going to Roy and Lesley Blevins’ Basset Hound, four-month-old Blevwil Question Being.

LIMERICK '16 PUPPY STAKES
The stakes classes at Limerick were judged by Tom Hehir. Starting with the Puppy Stakes, his winner, qualifying for the Combined Canine/Royal Canin Irish Pup of the Year final, was Fiona Clarke’s six-month-old Samoyed Icemist Song Of The Wind, with the runner-up spot taken by Felicity Thompson’s Whippet Barnesmore Venus In Furs, also six months old.

Tom Hehir's Champion Stakes winner was Leanne Stewart's Cairn Terrier Ch Stirlingview Shake The Dice, runner-up was Clive Davidson’s Samoyed Ch Sirinna Simply The Best.

LIMERICK '16 VETERAN STAKES
Topping the Veteran Stakes under Tom Hehir was Trevor Rodgers’ Japanese Shiba Inu Ch & GB Ch Jiltrain Jack The Lad, handled by Janine Dooner; ten-year old ‘Jack’ on a return visit to Ireland where he enjoyed so much success over the years. Runner-up was Colm and Rose Hastings’ eight-year-old Old English Sheepdog Ch, GB & Am Gr Ch Lambluvs Live The Dream.

LIMERICK '16 BRACE STAKES
The Brace Stakes winner was McNab’s Pointer pairing of Shanandi Dark Shadow Of Querdon and Querdon Quaver, while Tom Hehir’s second place rosette went to Lamb and Saltmarsh’s Cairn Terriers Renshaw There And Back Again and Birselaw Fable.

Australian Shepherd, Sarah Gibbons and Hayley Jones’ Ch Austrian Dream Be Well Suited Of Wispafete was Australian judge Noreen Harris’ pick in Group 1, second place went to Emilio Castillo and Patrick Fortune’s Shetland Sheepdog Edglonian Out Of The Blue.

Fabrizio La Rocca judged Group 2 where his winner was the BIS3-winning Newfoundland, Paddy Galvin and Gordon Cutts’ GB Ch Kenmau Break The Mould Merrybear, with second place going to Jelena Semjonova’s Giant Schnauzer Robmarralee Back In Black.

LIMERICK '16 GROUP 3
Topping Group 3 under terrier specialist Michael Kirby was the Lakeland Terrier, Catherine and Tina Broaders’ Ch Brookside Aristocrat, who went on to RBIS, with the runner-up spot taken by Tanya Mackrell, Virginia Dowty and Julie Connolly’s Australian Silky Terrier Ch Sunny Pearls Gaspar Amoroso.

Fabrizio La Rocca judged the Dachshunds in Group 4, awarding the group to Karen Weir’s Kaninchen Smooth Ch Magik Rainbow Gloria, in second place was Gerry McFaul’s Longhaired Ch & GB Ch Dachville Special Blend.

Estonian judge Marko Lepasaar judged Group 5 where his winner was Maureen and Brian Carroll's Keeshond Ch & Int Ch Lyntova Legend Has It. Runner-up was Helen McLaren's Akita Barannod Ballyshannon Boy.

LIMERICK '16 GROUP 6
Barry O’Neill’s Basset Hound Ch, GB & Int Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy was Singapore’s Stanley Shen’s Group 6 winner with his runner-up rosette awarded to Eddie and Gail Patterson’s Ridgeback Ch, GB & Int Ch Rocksham Kimweri.

Heading Group 7 under Bertil Lundgren from Sweden was the eventual BIS4 winner, Kay Donnelly’s Irish Setter Sh Ch Millcroft Whispering Moon, with Catherine Kelly’s Hungarian Vizsla Mont & Lux Ch Risley Poetry In Motion in second place.

Noreen Harris’ Group 8 winner was Sharon Henesy’s Flat-coated Retriever, Swantonwood Lowry At Wrensmead, second today was Ciara Byrne’s Golden Retriever Sh Ch & Int Sh Ch Zenevieva Master Bojangles for Whistler.

Siret Lepasaar from Estonia judged Group 9 where her winner was Sean Carroll and James Newman’s Papillon Ch, GB, Cz & Ger Ch Hundebuden’s Juno Pondabudens, Loretta Rowe’s Standard Poodle Fabiola Phoenix Le Chien Magnifique was in second place.

Kate Harbinson’s Saluki Ch & Int Ch Ulmarra Moet And Chandon With Actolia, handled by Sarah Cushley, the eventual BIS winner, took Group 10 under Italian judge Massimo Inzoli, whose runner-up was Carmel Barry Sheehan’s Afghan Hound Ch Agha-Djaris Under A Spell.

Many years ago the late Limerick chairman Pat Sheehy found a pair of wooden benches and decided they would be ideal for the judges’ tent at the Limerick shows. I gather they came from a ‘religious establishment’ but took well to their use with Limerick. Now, after many years, the ‘carpenter’ on the committee has decided they are ‘past their sale by date’ and wanted to throw them out. Hence a protest from the ladies on the committee, who chained themselves to the bench after this year’s show, proving that the girls always get their way, as committee members Ann Clancy, Pia Dempsey, Anita Fogarty and secretary, Laura Cox made their point so well that the benches stay for another year!
