John Bond of Kanesbrook Rottweilers judged Best in Show at Killarney, his first appointment at this level and he chose the Group 2 winner, Paul Keenan and Darren Griffin’s 2 years old Boxer, Ch Walkend Boy At Bessbox, aka ‘Harry’ who had earlier won his fi rst Group under Karen Gilliland (Castleavery). It was the Irish Water Spaniel, Joe Caulfield and Joanne Furlong’s Sh Ch & Int Sh Ch Fynder On Shifting Ground, who annexed Reserve BIS, ‘Marley’ having earlier won his tenth group of the year under Geoffrey Dryburgh from Australia.

John Bond, BIS judge, also judged Best Baby Puppy in Show. He gave the nod to Stephanie, Fiona & Ashling Robertson’s Pointer, Blueyonder Case In Point By Hookwood, handled by mum, Stephanie, much to the delight of her Navan based daughters. Dione Fitzsimons was also delighted when her home bred Dobermann, Fitzkin Has It, collected the runner-up rosette.

Margaret O’Gorman found her Champion Stakes winner in Mark Andrews & Jonathan Ledger’s Pointer, Ch & Multi Int Ch Aurichalcum Miss Tified Ledgands, no stranger to Ireland. Cybel and Dermot Alford’s Tibetan Terrier, Ch Christate How U Doin, handled by daughter, Georgina, took 2nd place here; he won the group earlier this year at Munster Canine.

Michael Lawless’ Bouvier Des Flandres, Dutch Lois From The Dogsfarm, won the Veteran Stakes under Margaret O’Gorman, who gave second place to Ger & Mary Hickey’s Finnish Spitz, Ch Kilconnell Cheekiw Tovorla.

Mr P Asensi Peinado from Spain was in charge of Group 1 at Killarney and his winner was Colm & Rose Hastings’ OES, Ch Lambluvs Live The Dream, a regular group and BIS winner over her career. Taking a first group placing this year in 2nd place was John O’Mahoney’s Pembroke Corgi, Ch Chawton Dream Maker.

Karen Gilliland judged Group 2, her winner was the eventual BIS winner, Paul Keenan & Darren Griffin’s Boxer, Ch Walkend Boy at Bessbox, and she gave 2nd place to Kerrisk’s Shar Pei, Ch Chuanfa Compact At Qing Iverna.

Well known Cork Kerry Blue man Ted Barry went over the large Group 3, and his final decision sent on to BIS the Irish Terrier, John Canty & John Harty’s Ch Padfoot Gradamach, handled by John Canty. Cathy Neill & Cara Davani’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Ch Kebulak Dirty Harry, BIS at Cork, handled by Cathy, was 2nd.

Well known and most successful Long Haired Dachshund breeder and exhibitor, Gerry McFaul was running the rule over the Dachshunds of Group 4, judging both the breeds and the group and he chose for his red rosette David Walsh & Gary McAlpine’s Mini Smooth, Ch & GB Ch Walpines Queens Courtier, a good winner both at home in Ireland and also in England. Cross channel visitor from Bury St Edmunds, Linda Coverley’s Wire Haired, Aventine Tropic Thunder, was runner-up.

Natasha Davidovic was overseeing Group 5 at Killarney and her winner was the top winning Pomeranian, James Newman’s Ch, GB & CIB Ch Belliver The Ultimate Creation; ‘Victoria’s’ most recent achievement being Reserve BIS two days earlier at Clonmel. James Duggan’s Siberian Husky, Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Hearts For Leorient, ‘Flint’ who was handled as ever by wife, Anita, took 2nd place.

Sean Watson from England but living for many years now in Cyprus, judged Group 6 where he could see nothing to beat Barry O’Neill & Sandra Stack’s Basset Hound, Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy; ‘Arthur’ a multi group & BIS winner and currently topping the Gorup on the ICP/Connolly’s RED MILLS Leaderboard. Liz Thornton from Hampshire was really enjoyed her ‘Irish holiday’ cleaning up during the week with her Basset Fauve De Bretagnes collecting no fewer than 12 green stars between her male, Mochras Melchoir and bitch Melchoir Mahogany, the former taking group 2nd here under Sean.

Mr G Dryburgh from Australia was the Group 7 judge and he found his winner in Catherine Kelly’s Hungarian Vizsla, Sh Ch Risley Made To Order, handled by Jane Anthony. Runner up was Cathy Loughlin’s Irish Setter, Sh Ch, GB Sh Ch & Int Sh Ch Rohanmor My Blue Heaven, whose titles speak for themselves.

Cocker Spaniel man, Chris Laverty, had the choice in Group 8 and gave a tenth Group wins this year to Joe Caulfield & Joanna Furlong’s Irish Water Spaniel, Sh Ch & Int Sh Ch Fynder On Shifting Ground, who finished RBIS later in the day. Second went to Frank, Bette & Emma Archibald’s Golden Retriever, Sh Ch Abinvale The Aviator, who was made up at Monkstown, and also took the group at Cork, ‘Denver’was handled as ever by Emma.

Yorkshire Terrier enthusiast Rita Fitzsimmons was judging Group 9 for the first time I believe and she gave the nod, and the big rosette to Rose and Colm White’s USA imported Bichon Frise, Ch & Am Gr Ch Whitbreds Pearls Heir To The Throne. ‘Star’ who won his Irish title at Kilkenny, had been group 2nd at the previous show. Making it a family affair, sister in law, Susan White piloted her Maltese, Ch Benatone Gold Jackpot, Champion Stakes winner at IKC Celtic Winners, took his fourth group placing this year with the 2nd rosette.

Laurent Heinesche was also judging at Killarney following his Clonmel appointment, and he judged Group 10 here, finding his winner in Willie & Joanne Mullen’s home bred Irish Wolfhound, Ch Broughadowey Tir Eoghain, taking his first group win this year and who was to have a great finale to the week, while Felicity Thompson’s Greyhound, Boughton Black Knight Of Barnesmore,, Group winner at Bangor, was 2nd.
