IRISH LADIES KENNEL ASSOCIATION '12 BEST IN SHOW
Best in Show at ILKA under Heather Cox was Kerry Blue Terrier, imported Mexican and Am Ch Bluemont Ariel at Clanciarrai, was bred in Mexico by Lorenzo Zambrano, and owned by Eileen and Paul Martin, who handled him; ‘Ariel’ took Res CC at Crufts this year and also RCC at the KBT Club of England, this win today followed his first group win at only his second show in Ireland. Colm & Rita Beattie and breeder Mike Bottomley’s American Cocker Spaniel, Boduf Divine, was Reserve Best in Show. ‘Diva’, who was BPIB at Manchester at the start of the year, now has 3 group wins, the first from Banbridge where she finished BIS 3, followed by Hibernian, with 2nd at Munster Canine and 3rd at Newtownards

ILKA '12 CHAMPION STAKES
Diane Stewart-Ritchie awarded the Champion Stakes to ‘Flint’, the Siberian Husky, handled by Anita Foley Duggan, for husband, Jimmy. Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart for Leorient, has been a great winner for this Kilkenny kennels, recently adding BIS at Working Pastoral Breeds of Wales to his CV. Runner-up was Barry O’Neill & Sandra Stack’s top winning Basset Hound, Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, Arthur recently taking yet another BIS at Hibernian.

Topping the Puppy Stakes under judge Diane Stewart-Ritchie of the Gwendariff Irish Setters, was the Dobermann Pinscher, Tuwos Jackie’O at Dronski, owned by June and Andy Cairns, regular visitors to Irish shows from Ayrshire, and handled by Josh Henderson, who bred her in partnership with his dad, Billy. ‘Lexi’ had been runner-up at Hibernian in May. Runner-up was Ross Delmar’s homebred Smooth Fox Terrier, Shillelagh Port Vino, a daughter of ‘Balloo’, his BIS winning Ch S. Smooth Operator.

Winning the veteran Stakes under Diane Stewart-Ritchie was Ann and Eamon White’s BSD Tervueren, Ch Revloch Ready Teddy Go To Whitandon, Joint Top Veteran last year, and who has been An Ch for the past 5 years; ‘Lennox’ topped Group 1 at Bray the previous weekend, at the grand age of 9 years. Runner up here was the Siberian Husky, Sue and Ralph Holmes’ 10 ½ year old Ch & Int Ch Suraliam I Rest My Case.

ILKA '12 GROUP 1
Winning Group1 under John Walsh, one of Ireland’s All Breeds judges, was Eoin Fleetwood and Patricia Kavanagh’s Bearded Collie, recently crowned Ch Firstprizebears John FK Jun Ch. ‘Oscar’, who is a Belgian import, now joins his kennelmate Elmo, multi group winner Ch Firstprizebears Foreman for Clarinbeard, who was BIS last year at Killarney, in this small, but top winning kennel based in Galway. Second was Sarah Matthews’ latest Pembroke Corgi, Craigycor Cake Boss, whose litter sister, Cup Cake is a POTY qualifier. ’Boss’ was handled by husband, and co breeder, Alan.

Mervyn Webb judged group 2 and his winner was the St Bernard, Austin and Ann Long Doyle’s Ch Il Divo Roly by Longsdyle Jun Ch, who was Annual champion last year. This was his first group win, and it was a 2nd place rosette for Joe Lyons and Belinda Holmes’ Black Russian Terrier, multi group & BIS winning Ch & Int Ch Standhouse Tsar at Kalaslane, who has topped the breed for the last three years and was BIS here last year.

Svante Frisk from Sweden judged Group 3, the terriers, where his winner was the Kerry Blue Terrier, imported Mexican and American Ch Bluemont Ariel at Clanciarrai, owned by Paul and Eileen Martin, and handled by Paul; ‘Ariel’ was to go on to take the top award on the day. Second was the Scottish Terrier, Ch Slievecroob Scotch Heather, owned and bred by Clifford and Eileen Aiken, and piloted by their son, Christopher, who has handled her to several group places this year. She is a Junior Champion and was also CJW & CW ’11, An Ch ’11 and CW ’12.

Topping the Dachshunds of Group 4 under Frances Larkin, judging at this level for the first time, was Lesley Patton’s Wire Haired, Ch Lesandnic Sea The Stars Jun Ch, already a group winner with many placings; homebred, this dog was An Ch 2011, CJW ’11 and CW ’11 and ’12. Keeping it in the family, his kennelmate, Ch Lesandnic Lily Agnes, had won this group just the week before at Bray. Karen Weir’s Smooth Haired Kaninchen, Ch D’Arisca Seal The Deal in Ambreglo Jun Ch, and An Ch ’10 & ’11, was runner-up, he is also a previous group winner.

John Walsh was back ring centre for Group 5 where his winner was ‘Flint’ the Siberian Husky, Jimmy Duggan’s Champion Stakes winner, Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart for Leorient, with, in second place, Fran Murphy’s American Akita, Ch Russcurragh’s All Or Nothing Jun Ch, taking more group points. Celtic Winner and An Ch 2011, he was also Euro Junior winner in ’09.
ILKA '12 GROUP 6
Making the decisions in Group 6 was Anthony Kelly, well known Limerick Chairman and another of Ireland’s All Breed judges, and he gave the red rosette to Eamon Murray’s BIS winning Beagle, Ch Hearthergrove Persian Warrior. Homebred ‘Tyler’ is a multi group winner and was BIS at Kilkenny in ’10 as a youngster. Taking the 2nd spot here was the Basset Hound, Barry O’Neill and Sandra Stack’s Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, runner up in the Champion Stakes earlier in the day.

Gundog man, Brian Grace judged the Setters and Pointers of Group 7 where he found his winner in Cathy Loughlin and Katie Kelly’s Irish Setter, Rohanmor You Were Made for Me Jun Ch. This young dog is now giving his well known kennelmate, Rohanmor My Blue Heaven, multi group & BIS winner, a run for her money. Aidan McKiernan’s English Setter, Sh Ch Richecca Reach For The Skye, third in the Champion Stakes, was group 2nd.

Margaret Cummins made her debut as a Group 8 judge at the ‘Ladies’, and she sent on to the main ring the eventual RBIS winner, Rita and Colm Beattie and breeder, Mike Bottomley’s American Cocker Spaniel, Boduf Divine, who, having now achieved the age of 15 months, with 10 Green Stars, can now be deemed Sh Ch, with Chris and Hilary Laverty’s orange roan Cocker Spaniel, 3 years old Lynwater Favour, taking 2nd spot.

Making his debut judging Group 9 was Dermot Alford or the Christate Tibetan Terriers, and he gave his top award to Sally and Sean Burns and Val and Mary Coghlan’s homebred Toy Poodle, Valentine Something Special, handled and presented as ever by Sally. Royally bred by their Ch Aedan High Stakes ex Ch GB & Int Ch Aedan Special Design for Valentine, at just 17 months she is following the family tradition. Jame Newman handled his Papillon, 2011 IKC Dog pf he Year, Ch, GB, Ger, Slov & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben, to Group 2nd.

Anthony Kelly, Limerick Chairman, was making the final awards for Group 10, his winner being Gerry and Pauline Clarke’s homebred Irish Wolfhound, Ch Roxanne of Shantamon, who has lately taken over the success run of her kennelmates, Champions Osmar and Opherra. ‘Dusty’, who as Annual Ch in 2011, was Group 2 this year at both Munster Canine and Swords and took a 3rd at Banbridge. The Whippet, Lynda Matthews and Don Foran’s Courthill Catch A Shadow, Group winner at Banbridge, where she was Reserve BIS and Kilkenny, and 3rd at Cork, was runner up here.
