Simon Rooney made his debut in the BIS ring and from his ten group winners selected Lynda Cuthbert Matthews and husband Colin’s Whippet, Ch, Gb & Int Ch Collooney He’s The One, for top spot. Seven year old ‘Brad’ has had a fantastic career since a puppy and of course was the IKC Dog of the Year 2010. Reserve BIS was awarded to Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frise, Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Act, the BIS winner at Swords and earlier in the year, the POTY winner.

IKC NATIONAL '12 BEST BABY PUPPY IN SHOW
Simon Rooney also had the pleasant task of selecting the Best Baby Puppy in Show and from all the BBP in Breed winners, his winner was Stephanie, Fiona and Aisling Robertson’s 5 months old Whippet, homebred Sheol Touch Of Gold, with Katrina Lyons’ Chow Chow, Hiswin Hold The Front Page At Bailew, just a day older, in runner-up position.

Topping the Champion Stakes under Jean Lawless was Melanie Corcoran’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Ch & GB Ch Zakstaff What’s The Story At Molru, while Orlaith Keenan’s Medium Poodle, Ch Xavano Intimately Yours At Sleepybrook, was in second spot.

Jean Lawless judged the Puppy Stakes, her winner was Colette Cole’s Shih Tzu, Cloughlea All That Jazz For Samchi, 8 months old ‘Tashi’ also winning the Bitch Green Star on the day. In second place was Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frise, Ashmair It’s All An Act.

Jean Lawless’ Junior Stakes winner was Tracy Shelley’s Shar Pei, Zaralee Gotta Lotta Nerve, with runner-up spot going to Grainne Keeling’s Alaskan Malamute, Libertia Arc Angel At Kishdigra.
IKC NATIONAL '12 VETERAN STAKES
Heading up the Veterans and making it a hat-trick of wins for the breed at the IKC National was the Whippet, Pamela and Ryan Hunter’s 9 year old Ch & Int Ch Collooney Mamma Mia, with Ann and Eamon White’s BSD Tervueren, Ch Revloch Ready Teddy Go To Whitandon, in second place.

Group specialist Alan Matthews of the famous Criagycor Pembroke Corgi prefix judged Group 1 where his winner was Brid and Mark McDonnell’s Cardigan Corgi, Ch & GB Ch Gowerston Jigsaw, group winner earlier this year at Kilkenny, and handled by Mark, with second place awarded to Joe and Brenda Doyle’s Shetland Sheepdog, Ch Sevenoaks Gold Edition, World Winner last year in Paris, this was his third group spot this year.

Judging Group 2 was Dr Roberto Schill from Romania whose choice for top spot fell to the BIS winning Dobermann, Ciaran and Ann-Marie Donnelly and Billy & Josh Henderson’s Dobermann Pinscher, Ch & GB Ch Tuwos Hrana, group winner at Hibernian earlier in the year, with in second place Andrea Cleary’s Rottweiler, Ch Cuchulain The Brave, recently RBIS at Limerick. ’Cooper’ also has 2 CCs.
IKC NATIONAL '12 GROUP 3
Officiating in Group 3 was Peter Harsanyi from Hungary, and he awarded the rosette to Dave Connaughton’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Ch Zack Chazrock, group winner earlier this year at Sligo, with the runner-up rosette going to Ross Delmar’s top winning Smooth Fox Terrier, Ch & Int Ch Shillelagh Smooth Operator, repeating his placing of the previous day.

Slovenian, Jelka Simcic, judged the Dachshunds of Group 4, her winner being Karen Weir’s Smooth Haired Kaninchen, Ch D’Arisca Gloria Gaynor, a first group success of the year for this three year old. In second place was Martin McDonnell’s Smooth Haired Miniature, Ch Smartdac Dark N Designer, the BIS winner at the IKC Celtic Winners show in March.

Heading up Group 5 under Nenad Davidovic from Serbia was Maureen and Brian Carroll’s Keeshond, Ch & Int Ch Arctic Kees Best Kept Secret, group winner on the recent Circuit at Clonmel and Killarney, with 2nd spot going to regular Scottish visitor, Vicky Miller with her Basenji, Ch & GB Ch Benkura Take A Chance On Me, group winner at IKC Celtic Winners.

Eamon Murray of the well known Heathergrove Beagles judged Group 6, awarding top spot to Barry O’Neill and Sandra Stack’s Basset Hound, Multi Group & BIS winning Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, back to back group wins for ‘Arthur’ over the International weekend; in second place under Eamon was Jane and Geordie Anthony’s Rhodesian Ridgeback, Ch & Int Ch Rottzridge Walk The Walk, another BIS winner from this group and a sixth group appearance this year.

Serbian, Natasa Davidovic, was assessing the winners in Group 7 where she awarded the big rosette to Catherine Kelly’s BIS 4 winning Hungarian Vizsla, Sh Ch & Lux Ch Risley Mark The Moment, handled by Jane Anthony to yet another group victory in his glittering career to date; runner-up under Natasa was a new face in the group, Stilgoe’s Pointer, Teisgol Aquarius.

Zefferino Silva from Portugal judged Group 8, finding his winner in Kerry Brennan’s Cocker Spaniel, Sh Ch Kerrijoy Valentino, a first group victory after runner-up spots at Hibernian, Dundalk and Limerick; runner-up today was Emma, Bette and Frank Archibald’s Golden Retriever, Abinvale The Aviator, ‘Denver’ having a great weekend as he was the group winner and BIS 4 the previous day.

Finnish judge Tiina Taulos was ring centre for Group 9 to replace Sarah Matthews who was unable to to fulfil her appointment due to illness, and she found her winner in the eventual RBIS winning Bichon Frise, Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Act, with second place awarded to Yvonne Cannon’s Shih Tzu, Ch Cloughlea Dare To Believe, a fifth group placing of the year for this homebred dog.

Irish judge Elaine Drennan was in charge of the sighthounds of Group 10 where her top choice was the BIS winner, Linda Cuthbert Matthews and husband Colin’s Whippet, Ch, GB & Int Ch Collooney He’s The One, with in second place, Tim, Marion and son Ian Finney’s Irish Wolfhound, homebred Gulliagh Aramis, group winner at Bray back in July.

It was good to see popular former IKC Chairman, Brian O’Hara, and his wife, Diane, at the IKC National; these days Brian doesn’t get to all the shows, but with a strong interest in the Irish breeds, they made a day of it on the Sunday.

The Irish Breeds Society held its Irish Breeds Ch Show with the IKC National and BIS under judge Anna Butler, of the Ballysax Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, was Hugh & Angela Jordan's Kerry Blue Terrier, Shillelagh Strike A Pose For Miculadh, with Ann White’s Irish Glen of Imaal, Ch Abberann Karl, handled by husband, Nicky, Reserve BIS.
IKC NATIONAL '12 OLD ENGLISH SHEEPDOG CLUB BEST IN SHOW
The Old English Sheepdog Club of Ireland held their breed championship show with the National, and judge on the day, IKC President, Sean Delmar gave BIS to Colm and Rose Hastings’ bitch, Ch, Am & Int Ch Lambluvs Live The Dream, with Dog GS and RBIS to Martin Bailey and Jennifer Duggan’s Ch Dromtrasna Jack at Guapo.
