Judging Best in Show at the IKC International Day 1 was Stephen Minogue, Stephen awarded the winner’s rosette to the Bulldog, Mark Graham’s Gongar King Henry Bulls, 20 months old ‘Henry’. Reserve Best in Show was the Kerry Blue Terrier, all the way from St Petersburg, Larisa and Nikolay Ageev’s Multi Ch Edbrios United Colours.

Stephen Minogue’s Best Baby Puppy in Show, selected from all the Best Baby Puppy in Breed winners, was Ray O’Neill’s Pekingese, 4 months old homebred Trendylook Hedley Lamarr, with RBBPIS awarded to Mary Kilroy and Conor Cahill’s American Akita, Roycon Thrill-I-Am.

From the ten puppy group winners, judged earlier by Irish All Breeds judge, Anthony Kelly, BIS judge Stephen Minogue’s choice for Best Puppy in Show, qualifying for the Combined Canine/Royal Canin POTY Final at Easter, was Barry O’Neill’s Basset Hound, Knockogue Buccaneer; Reserve Best Puppy in Show was Maureen and Brian Carroll’s 7 months old homebred Keeshond, Lyntova Midnight Legend.

Best Veteran in Show under Stephen Minogue was Louise Paterson’s 8 year old Swedish Vallhund, Ch & GB Ch Eriksfjord Magik Bean, with the runner-up slot taken by Carla Bollard O’Callaghan’s Afghan Hound, Ch, GB & Int Ch Ashahni Amir, ‘Caleb’ sealing his unassailable lead at the top of the Irish Canine Press/Royal Canin Veteran Leaderboard 2016.

Heading up Group 3 under Finnish judge, Tuire Okkola, was the RBIS winning Kerry Blue Terrier, Larisa and Nikolay Ageev’s Multi Ch Edbrios United Colours, handled by Philip O’Brien, with second place going to Ross Delmar and EwaLunden’s Smooth Fox Terrier, Multi Ch Residentsets Stand-In, this placing confirming ‘Stanley’, just turned 5 years of age two days previously, as the IKC Dog of the Year 2016, with four BIS wins two RBIS and ten group wins under his belt; he also now cannot be caught as the GAIN PETFOOD/Irish Canine Press/Dog World Leaderboard Top Dog 2016.

Tanya Ahlman-Stockmari from Finland judged Group 5, awarding top spot to the Eurasier, Kayleigh Parkinson’s Xania de Eurasipomer At Kaydanmy. In second place was Scarlett and Mark Burnside’s Alaskan Malamute, Ch, Lux & Int Ch Libertia Reggae Master.

Colombian judge, Juan Alberto Grillo Londono, judged Group 6 where his winner was Rebecca Cooper and mum Lydia Scott’s Rhodesian Ridgeback, Ch Trendsetter Highland Fling For Druimderg; runner-up was the veteran Beagle, Serena Parker’s Ch, GB & Ger Ch Serenaker Devil In Disguise, 10 ½ year old ‘Archie’ having won the breed earlier.

Topping Group 9 under Aida Rivera Franco from Colombia was the 4 year old Pekingese, Henry Stanley and Gordon Gault’s Ch Pekehuis Midnight Magic; in second place was the Welbourn, Dowsett & Tyler partnership’s Maltese, Ch Zumarnik Hot Pursuit.

German judge, Hans Gruttner, judged Group 10, awarding the group to the Irish Wolfhound, Ivan Gargan’s Ch Ferseithean Of Skerryhill. In the runner-up spot today was Stephanie and Fiona Robertson and Steven O’Brien’s Whippet, Ch Sheol Golden Girl.

The Junior Handlers Association of Ireland held their ‘Special Team’ event at the the IKC International show, and included was a Top Handler competition, judged by Marie Hamill and Colm Beattie. The winner of this event was Kellie O’Donoghue.
