IKC INTERNATIONAL '14 DAY 1 BEST IN SHOW
On day one of the Irish Kennel Club International Championship show weekend, Best in Show was judged by Susan Kealy and she gave top honours to the Miniature Bull Terrier, Ch, GB & Multi Int Ch Grasco’s Honky Tonky, owned by Moreno Scotton and shown by Ger Cox. Reserve BIS went to the Golden Retriever, Sh Ch, GB Sh Ch, Dan & Int Ch Abinvale Traguardo, owned by Janette Filskov and Emma Archibald, who handled him. The Show was sponsored by GAIN Petfoods, represented in the photograph by Sean Martin and Adrian O’Keeffe.

Susan Kealy judged Best Baby Puppy In Show from all the Best Baby Puppies in Breed, Susan chose the Whippet, Lynda Cuthbert Matthews and husband, Colin’s Whippet, Ailesbury Shadow Dancer, bred by Lynda in partnership with Don Foran. Runner up was the Briard, Carol Foster’s Fosterbrie Divine Delight.

Joy O’Connor judged the Best Puppy In Show. There were no Puppy Groups at this show, just a huge side ring full of Best Puppy in Breeds, all vying for Best Puppy in Show, and also their ticket to the POTY finals next Easter. Joy picked the Japanese Shiba Inu, Stephen Minogue’s Jiltrain Jackpott, young Jack has already done well in the ring, taking a Group 5 second spot at Limerick on his show debut. Reserve Best Puppy in Show was the Pug, Ken and Richard Morgan-Stanley’s Golbourne All Eyes On Me.

Joy O’Connor judged all the best Veterans in Breed and on the day her winner was the 8 years old Beagle, Serena Parker and Graham Stevens’ GB Ch Serenaker Devil In Disguise, with Janice Bannister’s Japanese Shiba Inu, Ch & GB Ch Janeryls In The Line Of Fire in second.

Joy O’Connor’s Champion Stakes winner was the Toy Poodle, Ch & GB Ch Tirkane The Big Issue, prepared and handled by Marlies Morzik, who had come over from Germany to handle him as his usual handler, Ann Ingram, was judging abroad. Runner up was the Bichon Frise, Ashling Connolly’s Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Sunshine All The Way.

Topping the Junior Stakes under Joy O’Connor, was Olive Taylor’s Chow Chow, Chivas Royal Djalo at Taylorian ‘Boris’ was imported from Belarus.

Rui Oliveira from Portugal judged Group 1 where his winner was the visiting Shetland Sheepdog, Sue Walker’s Dippersmoor Star Gazer by Tooralie; ‘Gaz’ has 1 CC and 2 Res CCs at home. Runner-up was the 7 year old Australian Shepherd Dog, Ch & Am Gr Ch Bayshore Stonehaven Cat Burglar, owned by Neil Allan, Robert Harlow and Tracey, Alec and Lynne Douglas and handled by Tracey.

Croatian judge, Tino Pehar’s Group 2 winner was Paul Scanlon and Ashling Connolly’s Miniature Schnauzer, Ch Nujax Johnny Cash who then went on to BIS 3. Willie and Mandy Dobbin’s top winning Newfoundland, Ch GB & Dk Ch Brooklynbear Nijinsky, handled by Willie and his son to many group and BIS wins, was in second place.

German judge, Stuart Falk Rudiger judged Group 3, sending forward the eventual BIS winner, Moreno Scoton’s Miniature Bull Terrier, Ch, GB & Multi Int Ch Grasco’s Honky Tonky, handled by Ger Cox; runner-up was Richard Dalton, Philip O’Brien and Jarka Poulova’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Ch Dalstar Il Divo.

Estonian judge, Jelena Kruus was in charge of Group 4 where her winner was Mark McDonnell’s Miniature Long Haired, Ch Smartdac Supernatural. The Miniature Wire Haired, Kerrie Kelly’s Ch Rioban Felt Finnish For Kmai, took a first group placing of the year in second spot.

Norwegian judge Mona Karen Selbach’s Group 5 winner was Brian and Hazel Aherne’s American Akita, Ch Melador Kaygeebe, a first group win this year. Craig Bannon and Niamh Carroll’s Akita Inu, Ch Tohoku Akai Sora was in second place.

Hungarian judge Atilla Czegledi judged Group 6 where his winner was Barry O’Neill’s Basset Hound, Ch, GB & Int Ch Knockogue Arthur’s Legacy; ‘Arthur’ today taking his tenth group victory of the year. Runner-up was the Petite Basset Griffon Vendeen, Michelle Keelan’s Ch Afterglow Chunkey Monkey of Tejas, handled by husband, Ivor.

Visiting English judge, Dr Ron James’ Group 7 winner, Tom and Ann-Marie Mervyn’s G.S.H.P. Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Karlivar Dusky Rose at Tomanipoint went on to take BIS 4 later in the day. The Belgian Weimaraner, Edwin Lenaerts, Finch & Van Der Sichel’s Ch GCH Doc N’ Camelots Heaven Can Wait, bred in America where he was a multi BIS winner, was in second place.

Annuka Paloheimo from Finland judged Group 8, sending through the eventual Reserve BIS winner, Emma Archibald and Jeanette Filskov’s Golden Retriever, Sh Ch, GB Sh Ch Dk & Int Ch Abinvale Traguardo, with second place awarded to Mary & Des Murray’s top winning Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Sh Ch, Gb Sh Ch & Int Ch Riverrun Agus Avic.

Portuguese judge Zeferino Silva’s Group 9 winner was Louis Hogan and John Yek’s Pekingese, Ch Palacegarden Perseus at Pearlstone. Sean Carroll and James Newman’s Papillon, Ch & Ger Ch Hundebudens Juno Pondabudens, handled by James was in second place.

Ferdinando Asnaghi from Italy was centre ring for Group 10, handing top spot to a delighted Maureen Wade handling her Italian Greyhound, Ch & Int Ch Turigner Wind In The Willows, ‘Willow’ was was the Bitch CC winner at Crufts 2013. Second placed was the Whippet, Felicity Thompson’s Whippet, Barnesmore Fire Wolf of Phinjani, handled by her Mum, Lucinda.
