IKC INTERNATIONAL '12 BEST IN SHOW
Topping the Irish Kennel Club’s 2012 International under judge, Michael Leonard, was ‘Hugo’, Jane Jenkins’ West Highland WhiteTerrier, Ch Havasu Hugo Boss, presented and handled by breeder, Ken Crockett, the first time for many years that a Westie has won BIS at any IKC all breed event. Runner-up was the Pomeranian, James Newman’s Ch, GB & Int Ch Belliver The Ultimate Creation, no stranger to top honours.

IKC INTERNATIONAL '12 BEST BABY PUPPY IN SHOW
There was also a Best Baby Puppy in Show contest, also judged by BIS judge, Michael Leonard whose eventual winner from a bevy of rising stars was Dione Fitzsimons’ Dobermann Pinscher, homebred Fitzkin Has It, with the Cardigan Corgi, Liz Stewart’s Jazenta Blu Moon, handled by Amy McDonnell, runner-up.

Michael Leonard also judged Best Puppy in Show from all the Best Puppies in Breed, finding his winner in Aidan McKeiran’s Beagle, Dialynne Indiana Jones at Bushbane, while Veronica Millar’s Basenji, Benkura Blue Sky Mine, was runner-up.
IKC INTERNATIONAL '12 BEST VETERAN IN SHOW
Another task for BIS judge Michael Leonard was choosing the Best Veteran in Show and here taking the big rosette was Veronica Coutts’ Wire Fox Terrier, Laural Boy, now over 11 years old with almost 30 Reserve Green Stars to his name!!! and a regular visitor to Irish shows with his Scottish owner. Runner up was the Chinese Crested, Dowsett’s Xanton Peggy Sue at Tteswood.

Topping the Champion Stakes under Catherine Rooney, was Lynda Cuthbert Matthews & Don Foran’s Whippet, Ch Courthill Catch A Shadow, runner-up was, Cathy Neill and breeder Cara Davani’s Kerry Blue, Ch & GB Ch Kebulak Dirty Harry.
IKC INTERNATIONAL '12 JUNIOR STAKES
Catherine Rooney judged the Junior Stakes and here her winner was Monica and Mags Boardman’s new American Cocker Spaniel, homebred Am Ch Portsann Loves To Party, back home from a short visit to the USA where he won his American Title. Runner–up was Rogerson’s Whippet, Bigglesmere Precious Opal.

Topping Group 1 at the International under Hungarian judge, Peter Harsanyi, was Colm and Rose Hastings’ Old English Sheepdog, Ch Am & Int Ch Lambluvs Live The Dream very well known bobtail in Ireland with her multiple group and BIS wins; ‘Sue’ currently tops the ICP/Connolly’s Redmills Group 1 Leaderboard, as indeed she did last year. Runner up on the day was Jean, Paul and Kelly Lawless’ Schipperke, Ch & GB Ch Monterrez Jingle Belle for Hantreved.

Group 2 was judged by Jelka Simcic from Slovakia, and her winner was the Rottweiler, Michael & Roslyn Prior’s homebred Rosamic Redbull, Group winner at Swords in June. Second here was the Bulldog, Am Ch Babby’s Wanna Be Startin Somethin of Surf City, imported from the USA by and owned by Joel McCreevy, in partnership with Truong, Babcock & Serion.

Centre ring for the Terriers of Group 3 was (Mrs) Mike Macbeth, from Canada, and she gave the nod to Jane Jenkins’ West Highland White Terrier, Ch Havasu Hugo Boss, handled by breeder, Ken Crockett; he was to go on to take BIS. Ross Delmar handled his top winning Smooth Fox Terrier, BIS winning Ch & Int Ch Shillelagh Smooth Operator, to second place; ‘Balloo’ currently topping the ICP/Connolly’s Redmills Group 3 Leaderboard.

The Dachshunds of Group 4 were judged by Joe Field from South Africa, and his winner was Lesley Patton’s Wire Haired, Ch Lesandnic Sea The Stars Jun Ch. A first group placing with 2nd spot went to Frances and Gerry Larkin’s Long Haired, Larkhund Merlin.

A third group 5 win this year for James Newman and Sean Carroll’s Pomeranian, Ch & GB Ch Belliver The Ultimate Creation, ‘Victoria’, who last year was runner up IKC Dog of the Year. Romanian judge, Dr Roberto Schill chose Jimmy Duggan’s Siberian Husky, Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart for Leorient, handled by wife Anita as usual, for runner-up.

John R Walsh (Junior) was one of only 2 Irish group judges at the show and he selected his Group 6 winner in Barry O’Neill and Sandra Stack’s top winning Basset Hound, homebred Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy; winning his tenth group this year, ‘Arthur’ was also BIS at both Hibernian and Kilkenny. Runner up was his usual sparring partner, Eamon Murray’s Beagle, Ch Heathergrove Persian Warrior; ‘Tyler’ currently also 2nd to him on the Leaderboard with 6 group wins and Best in Show at Clonmel.

Nenad Davidovic assessed the dogs in Group 7, choosing for the big rosette Cathy Loughlin and Katie Kelly’s Irish Setter, Sh Ch Rohanmor You Were Made For Me, who won his first group this year at ILKA, and is Katie’s dog in her Junior Handling successes. In runner-up spot was Seamus and Maura Gettings’ German Wire Haired Pointer, their top winning Sh Ch, Int Sh Ch Kimmax Krystal Klear of Beechillawn Jun Ch, who has topped the breed for the past three years.

Natasha Davidovic, judged Group 8 and her winner was Emma, Bette and Frank Archibald’s homebred Golden Retriever, Sh Ch Abinvale The Aviator Jun Ch, young Denver’s second group this year as he previously won at Cork. Colm Beattie, wife Rita, Jason Lynn and Andy Yau’s American Cocker Spaniel, Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Afterglow Carlsberg, took 2nd place here.

June Wall judged Group 9 where her winner was the Bichon Frise, Ashling Connolly’s homebred Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Act; ‘Beau’ having done just about all a dog could do this year, from winning the IKC Top Showdog awards finals ‘11, the POTY, and his UK and Irish crowns; BIS winner at Swords, this was his 4th group win this year. Second place went to last year’s IKC Dog of the Year, Sean Carroll and James Newman’s Papillon, Ch, GB, Ger, Slov & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben,. Ruben’ has ten group wins so far this year and was BIS at both Combined International and Limerick.

Zeferino Silva from Portugal made the decisions in Group 10, his winner being Willie and Joanne Mullen’s homebred Irish Wolfhound, Ch Broughadowey Tir Eoghain; ‘Cooper’ was BIS at Tralee at the end of the circuit having won his first group just four days earlier at Killarney. Runner up was the Greyhound, Felicity Thompson’s Ch Boughton Black Knight of Barnesmore, who had also stood reserve at Killarney, and was the group winner at Bangor in August.
IKC INTERNATIONAL '12 BEST IRISH BREEDS GROUP
After Best in Show the Best Irish Breed was chosen from the Best of Breeds in all the native breeds, and it was Irish Wolfhound doyen, Elizabeth Murphy, who was invited to make the decision. Her choice fell to the Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Johnson’s Swe Ch Seamrog Cactus Lime at Garsayno, making a most successful trip across the Irish Sea.
