Topping the IKC International Ch Show on the Sunday under BIS judge, Nicky White, internationally known for his and wife Ann’s Abberann Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, was the Danish based Golden Retriever, Jeanette Filskov’s Dk & Int Ch Abinvale Traguardo, back home in Ireland to be campaigned by breeders Emma, Bette and Frank Archibald, and handled by Emma. ‘Blue’ and Emma have had a great week as she handled him to his first CC with BOB at Belfast the previous weekend where he finished Gundog Group 4. Reserve BIS was awarded to Ivor and Michelle Keelan’s Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, Ch Afterglow Chunkey Monkey At Tejas, 22 months old ‘Bruno’ gained his title at the IKC Celtic Winners show in March and has a host of group placings.

All Best Baby Puppy in Breeds competed for the title of Best Baby Puppy in Show under Nicky White, the honour today falling to Rosie O’Rourke and Billy & Josh Henderson’s 4 months old Dobermann Pinscher, Tuwos Black Kaviar, handled by Billy, with RBBPIS going to Betty Davis’ Miniature Smooth Dachshund, Barleyfield Rumour Has It.

Topping the Champion Stakes was Sally & Sean Burns and Mary & Val Coghlan’s Toy Poodle, Ch, GB & Int Ch Aedan Special Design For Valentine, ‘Frankie’ starting off the day in great style and finishing off with victory in Group 9 en route to BIS 4; runner-up was awarded to Carla Bollard O’Callaghan’s Afghan Hound, Ch, GB & Int Ch Ashahni Amir, 5 year old ‘Caleb’ Annual Champion in the breed for the last 3 years and a multi BIS winner.

Johnny Muldoon, another of Ireland’s international judges, judged the Junior Stakes and his winner of was Paul Scanlon and Ashling Connolly’s Miniature Schnauzer, Nujax Johnny Cash. Runner-up was Tracy Carroll’s 14 months old Irish Wolfhound, Keela Of Shantamon.

Heading up Group 1 under Carol Mulcahy was Alan and Sarah Matthews’ Pembroke Corgi, Ch, GB & Int Ch Craigycor Viva La Diva, ‘Erin’ going on to BIS 3; runner-up under Carol was again the Lawless family partnership, but this time with their Schipperke, Ch, GB & Lux Ch Monterrez Jingle Belle For Hantreved.

Finnish judge Hans Lehtinen’s Group 2 winner was Paul Keenan and Darren Griffen’s Boxer, Ch Walkend Boy At Bessbox, 3 year old ‘Harry’ the BIS winner at Killarney 2012 and today taking his 4th group victory, with Ronnie and Jeanette Kirk’s Dogue De Bordeaux, Kelticknight Georgieboy.

Terrier group judge Enrique Mate Duran wasted no time in short listing his group; topping the group was Mark Cushnahan’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Cushlagorm The Situation, later going on to win Best Native Breed in Show, with second place awarded to Melanie Corcoran’s Crufts winning Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Ch Zakstaff Whats The Story At Molru.

Monica Blaha from Austria judged the Dachshund Group 4, awarding top honours to Trevor Castles’ Miniature Smooth, Ch Selstac Angel Delight; in second place today was Dawn Norton’s Miniature Long, Kasanova V Desaro At Halunke.

Svend Loenkjaer was in charge of Group 5, selecting as his winner, Brian and Hazel Aherne’s American Akita, Ch Melodor Kaygeebee, a second successive group win at the back to back shows; runner-up was Peri Burnside’s Alaskan Malamute, Ch Sl Libertia Poison Ivy Of Velvetmist, handled by son Adam.

Paula Heikkinen Lehkonen from Finland was centre ring for Group 7 where her winner was Catherine Kelly’s BIS winning Hungarian Vizsla, Sh Ch Lux Ch CIE, Risley Mark The Moment, piloted by Jane Anthony, with Helen Gracie’s Irish Setter, Summergate Juicy Lucy, taking second spot.

Leif Herman Wilberg was having the golden touch over the weekend as yet another of his group winners, this time, Jeanette Filskov’s Dk & Int Ch Abinvale Traguardo, handled by co-breeder Emma Archibald, went all the way to Best in Show later in the day; runner-up under Leif was Mary and Des Murray’s Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Ch & GB & Int Ch Riverrun Agus Avic, 5 year old ‘Missy’ showing her dual ability both in the showring and field with her FT titles at home and across the water.

Best Irish Native Breed on day 2 under Irish Wolfhound specialist Jim Behan was Mark Cushnahan’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Cushlagorm The Situation; 2 ½ year old ‘Lexie’, currently on 6 Green Stars, was BIS at the Ulster Kerry Blue Club and was today’s terrier group winner.
