Mike Drennan was the BIS judge at Hibernian’s 40th anniversary Championship Show. His winner was the Toy Poodle Ch Grayco Splash The Cash, owned by Sally Burns, Mary Coghlan and Lesley Howard, and prepared and handled by Sally, fresh from judging BIS the previous week at Newtownards. RBIS went to Maureen and Brian Carroll’s four-year-old Keeshond Ch & Int Ch Lyntova Legend Has It.

HIBERNIAN '16 PUPPY STAKES
Judging the stakes was Elaine Drennan, wife of the BIS judge, and she had a busy day with 42 youngsters to choose from in the Puppy Stakes, her winner being the American Cocker Spaniel, Colm Beattie’s Boduf Hope For Branstock. Runner-up was the Weimaraner Caspar Silver Lining, owned by Ger Philpott.

The St Bernard, Austin and Ann Long Doyle’s Ch, Int & Lux Ch Il Divo Roly By Longsdyle, won the champion stakes under Elaine Drennan. Brian and Maureen Carroll’s Keeshond Ch & Int Ch Lyntova Legend Has It, who also finished the day RBIS, was runner-up.

The veteran stakes winner was James and Imelda Wade’s Australian imported Japanese Spitz Ch, It, Aus Gr Ch & Int Ch Daesdaemar Stop N Stare. Runner-up was Marion, Tim and Ian Finney’s Min Wire Dachshund Ch & Int Ch Nice One from Vitoraz to Gulliagh, handled by Marion.
HIBERNIAN '16 BRACE STAKES
Topping the brace stakes under Elaine Drennan was the Smooth Dachshund duo of Jaana Aadamsoo, Jagervision Farao and Jagervision Fashionista, with Robby van Wensveen and Barbara Hurley’s Whippets Barnesmore Flashman and Barnesmore Who’s That Girl taking the runner-up spot.

John Walsh (Junior), was ring centre for Group 1 and his winner was the Old English Sheepdog Ch & Int Ch Bellablue Bewitched By Scallywag; ‘Bubble’ who finished BIS4 is owned by Joe Dempsey and handled to her successes by his wife Pia. Runner-up was the Shetland Sheepdog, Damian McDonald’s Degallo The Show Must Go On of Fearnach.

Zeferino Silva from Portugal judged Group 2, finding his winner in Joe Lyons and Belinda Holmes’ Russian Black Terrier Ch & Int Ch Kalaslane Kick Ass, with the Miniature Schnauzer Ch Nujax Johnny Cash, runner-up. ‘Cash’ is owned by Paul Scanlon and Ashling Connolly.

Marie Hamill was selecting the best terrier and her Group 3 winner was the Bull Terrier, Blr Ch Coxgal Muin Na Muice, owned by Vaida Velykyte and Egle Pakenaite, and handled by Ger Cox, who finished BIS3. The Smooth Fox Terrier, Ross Delmar and Ewe Lunden’s Ch, Sw, Nor, Dan & Int Ch Residensets Stand-In, was runner-up.

Joy O’Connor judged the Dachshunds of Group 4 where her winner was the Kaninchen Smooth, Karen Weir’s Ch Magik Rainbow Gloria. In second place was Mark McDonnell’s Min Long Ch Smartdac Rising Phoenix.

James Newman judged Group 5 and gave the red rosette to the Keeshond, Maureen and Brian Carroll’s Ch & Int Ch Lyntova Legend, who finished RBIS, while second was Scarlett and Mark Burnside’s Alaskan Malamute Ch, Int & Lux Ch Libertia Reggae Master.

Winner of Group 6 wasBarry O’Neill’s Basset Hound Ch, GB & Int Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, under Maureen Wade, who gave the Black and Tan Coonhound, Anthony Lord Edwards’ Ch Windbourne Wicket Lady of Lyonvelt, runner-up.

Group 7 saw Jimmy Byrnes judging and he gave the top award to Stephen Kennedy’s Weimaraner Sh Ch Zilverein Straight No Chazer. Second was Tom and Annie Mervyn’s BIS-winning German Shorthaired Pointer Sh Ch Tomanipoint Celtic Knight; ‘Rory’ currently top of the group 7 Gain Petfood/Irish Canine Press/Dog World Leaderboard.

Sean Carroll took charge for Group 8 and his winner was the American Cocker Spaniel Sh Ch Portsann Bling And Sparkle, owned by mother and daughter Mags and Monica Boardman. Ralph Dunne’s top winning Clumber Spaniel Sh Ch Richley Royale Bond, took the runner-up spot.

The eventual BIS-winning Poodle, Sally Burns, Mary Coghlan and Lesley Howard’s Ch Grayco Splash The Cash, was Chris Hancock's Group 9 winner. Runner-up was Darren Friend’s French Bulldog, Kesasonas Little Elsa, handled by Emilio Castillo.

Jackie Stubbs made the decisions in group 10, giving top honours to the American imported Whippet Am Ch Sporting Fields Dream Team, a first ever group for Brendan Nolan who owns him with breeder Amanda Giles. Second went to the Afghan Hound Ch & Int Ch Davashey To Tell The Truth, owned by Mary Mulvaney, Lyn Appleby, John Minchin and Jane Edwards.

When popular exhibitor and judge Seamus Oates died he left some lovely pieces of canine art to his friend Jim Smaull, who decided that one particular painting should be given to the Irish Kennel Club. Here IKC president Sean Delmar (left) accepts the painting from Jim on behalf of the IKC.

A special cake for Hibernian’s 40th all-breed championship show was cut by long-time committee member Irene Houlihan, surrounded by the rest of the committee and offcers. There was a slice of cake and glass of Prosecco for all the exhibitors.
