HIBERNIAN '13 BEST IN SHOW
The honour of judging Best in Show at Hibernian 2013 fell to Joy O’Connor, one of Ireland’s All Breed judges, well known for her family involvement in Airedale Terriers (her Grandmother, Dorothy Discon) and Dachshunds ( her Mum Eileen) and her own and her Mum’s in Penrose Bichon Frise, a real doggie dynasty. From the ten group winners, Joy’s choice was Jimmy Duggan’s Siberian Husky, Ch & Int Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart For Leorient. Three year old Swedish import ‘Flint’, handled as usual by wife Anita, has had a spectacular career since arriving in Ireland, winning the Junior Champions Contest as a youngster, 2 CCs across the water (to be three later in the year) with BIS at Working Pastoral Breeds of Wales, and at home Best in Show wins last year at Munster Canine, Dundalk and Monkstown. Reserve BIS was awarded to Yvonne Cannon & Mum, Bernie Ladd’s Shih Tzu, Ch Cloughlea Dare To Believe, 2 ½ years old ‘Max’ another top winner, BIS earlier in the year at the IKC Celtic Winners show in March, today his 3rd group win.

Joy O’Connor’s Best Baby Puppy in Show rosette went to Bernie Allen’s American Akita, Cannonbear Smokin Joe, with RBBPIS to Peter Summersgill and Bernie Doherty’s Coton De Tulear, Clanlee Miss Mischeviou.

Marie Thorpe’s Champion Stakes winner was Paul Keenan & Darren Griffin’s Boxer, Ch Walkend Boy At Bessbox, ‘Harry’ BIS last year at Killarney, and this year’s winner of the Champion of Champions contest, so a return visit to defend his crown. Runner-up was Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frise, Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Act, BIS winner at Fermoy and Cork.

Judging the Puppy Stakes was Marie Thorpe, internationally known for her Ashaka Chihuahuas and Japanese Chins, and in the Puppy Stakes her POTY ticket went to Richardson & Carberry’s Dobermann, Rokpinsch Denzel, handled by Stevie Richardson, with Moira Grant-Cook's French Bulldog, Eastonite Hurricane handled by husband Ronnie, in second spot

Topping the Veteran Stakes at Hibernian under Joy O’Connor was Ann & Eamon White’s BSD Tervueren, Ch Revloch Ready Teddy Go To Whitandon, another victory for ‘Lennox’, with 2nd place going to Cathy Loughlin’s Irish Setter, Sh Ch & Int Sh Ch Thendara Versace Among Rohanmor.

Topping Group 1 under Brenda Doyle was Alan and Sarah Matthews’ Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Ch, GB & Int Ch Craigycor Viva La Diva, BIS winner this year at Combined Canine. In second place was Geraldine Mulrooney’s Old English Sheepdog, Bellablue Fellabreda.

Billy Blount officiated Group 2, finding his winner in David and Jackie Benson’s young Bernese Mountain Dog, Pasturegreen Irish Price At Bernervalley, 18 months old and taking his first Green Star on the day while in second spot came Ivan McClean’s Black Russian Terrier, Ch Free Choice Czarevich Gosha, group winner on the Circuit last year at Killarney.

Judging the terriers of Group 3 was Stephen Minogue, whose winner was Melanie Corcoran’s SBT, Ch & GB Ch Zakstaff What’s The Story At Molru, who went on to BIS 4, with Cara Davani and Cathy Neill’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Ch & GB Ch Kebulak Dirty Harry, BIS at Cork and RBIS at Tralee last year, in the runner-up spot.

Swiss judge, Nicole Kubli judged all the Dachshunds in Group 4 and her winner was Julie Emerson’s Smooth Haired, Ch Hacienda Sir Fin The Net At Pachego, group winner earlier this year at Combined International, with Benita Morrison’s Miniature Wire, 17 months old Benzden Armani, group third at Combined, in the runner-up spot.

The Best in Show winning Siberian Husky, Jimmy Duggan’s Ch & Int Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart For Leorient, handled by wife Anita, progressed through Group 5 under judge, June Wall, whose choice for second place fell to Brian and Hazel Aherne’s American Akita, Ch Melodor Katgeebe, group winner the previous week at Newtownards and last year at Deise.

Topping Group 6 under Hound specialist Stephanie Robertson was Barry O’Neill’s Basset Hound, Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, en route to BIS 3, with Fergal Knox’s Beagle, Timamso Texas, group runner-up last year at Banbridge, taking a first group placing this year in second place.

Heading up Group 7, under All Breeds judge Gerry Hickey, was David & Kathy McLoughlin’s German Short Haired Pointer, Penralaview Dawns Glaw, a first group victory after 3rd place at Banbridge, with second spot awarded to Catherine Kelly’s Hungarian Vizsla, Sh Ch Lux Ch Risley Mark The Moment, ‘Marco’ group winner at Banbridge and Fermoy this year.

Des Manton judged Group 8 where his winner was Liam and Brian Moran’s Golden Retriever, Sh Ch Woodmore Ringo Starr, group winner at Munster Canine last year, with second place awarded to Michele Knapp’s English Springer Spaniel, Sh Ch Calvdale Carte Blanche, second also at Banbridge this year.

Group 9 was judged by Noreen Clarke, her winner emerging as the eventual RBIS winning Shih Tzu, Yvonne Cannon and Bernie Ladd’s Ch Cloughlea Dare To Believe, with second place awarded to Clodagh Fallon’s Pug, Clodana Sparks Will Fly, a first group placing.
HIBERNIAN '13 GROUP 10
Nick Hammond was centre ring for Group 10, finding his winner in Gerry and Pauline Clarke’s Irish Wolfhound, Ch Roxanne Of Shantamon, ‘Dusty’, BIS winner last year at Sligo, off to America later this year as Ireland’s representative at the Eukanuba Challenge after topping the IKC Showdog Finals earlier in the year. Second was Lynda Dunn’s Saluki, Ch, Rom & Gr Ch Ulmarra Cuib Oighear, recently fourth placed at Fermoy International.
