HIBERNIAN '12 BEST IN SHOW
Barry O’Neill and Sandra Stack’s homebred Basset Hound, Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy Jun Ch, won Best in Show from an entry of 1,236 dogs at Hibernian’s 36th all breed championship show on Saturday, May 19th, under BIS judge, Joyce Crawford-Manton. This young Basset Hound has enjoyed a superb career, taking group wins from an early age and clinching his UK crown in double quick time. He won his first group at just 9 months old at DDSS Stephens Day show ‘10, following on with a further 7 groups through 2011, taking BIS at the IKC National Ch Show in September, and this year clinched Group 6 at both Combined International and Banbridge. Today he collected his 10th group win under Des Manton en route to BIS. Reserve BIS was James Newman’s Papillon, 2011 IKC Dog of the Year, Ch, GB, Slov, Ger & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben, who was also RBIS the previous weekend at Newtownards. Ruben is a multi group and BIS winner both at home and abroad.

Margaret and Monica Boardman’s homebred Japanese Spitz, Portsann Sachiko, took Best Baby Puppy in Show under Joyce Crawford-Manton, with Pat Quinn’s Miniature Pinscher, Schancho Christmas Cracker, also homebred, runner-up.

Joy O’Connor’s Champion Stakes winner was Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frise, Ch Ashmair Double Act; ‘Beau; now on 2CCs, won the IKC Top Showdog Awards, and was also the 2011 Pup of the Year. Runner-up was Stephen Lloyd’s Lhasa Apso, Ch Owenavera All Time Love, recently the Group 9 winner at IKC Celtic Winners.

June & Andy Cairns’ Dobermann, Tuwos Jackie ’O’ at Dronskoi, who recently won the Pro Plan/Dog World Puppy Bitch Stakes at WELKS, was second, handled by Josh Henderson.

Sue & Ralph Holmes’ Siberian Husky, Ch & Int Ch Suraliam I Rest My Case, collected more points for the ICP/ROYAL CANIN Veteran Leaderboard, winning the Veteran Stakes under Joy O’Connor who gave 2nd to the current top Veteran, Lyn Appleby, John Minchin & Jane Edwards’ Afghan, Ch Kazdanabad Karlo Rossi.

Topping Group 1 under Mick Drennan was Colm & Rose Hastings’ OES, Ch Am & Int Ch Lambluvs Live The Dream; ‘Sue’ was Top G1 dog last year, taking the crystal for the ICP Leaderboard; unfortunately she couldn’t take her place in the BIS line-up as Colm had booked an early ferry to SKC, but it was a worthwhile trip as she returned with her 2nd CC. David McKenna’s Bouvier Des Flandres, Ch Nikolaev Diamond at Davdeir, another Group regular, was in 2nd place.

Ciaran & Ann Marie Donnelly & Billy & Josh Henderson’s multi group winning Dobermann, Ch & GB Ch Tuwos Hrana, handled by Billy, topped Group 2 under Chris Hancock, ‘Maebh’ going on to BIS 4. Runner-up was Howard & Sally Tonks’ Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Ch & Int Ch Shanlimore Maverick, handled as ever by Dione Fitzsimons; ‘Darcy’ currently has 2 CCS, and was also G2 at Fermoy Int.

Des Manton judged Group 3, finding his winner in Ron Farrelly’s homebred Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Ronstaff Show Dancer, who had earlier won her crowning Green Star and stepping up from G2 lat week at Newtownards. She was to go on to finish BIS 3 later in the day. Mick Gavin’s Lakeland Terrier, Kebulak Lady Marmalade at Spinkeen, just 16 months and already with several group appearances in her CV was in 2nd place.

Rebecca Barney from GB judged Group 4, where her winner was David Walsh & Gary McAlpine’s Miniature Long Coat, Walpines Brandy Cream, group 2nd at Combined Interanational, with Lesley Patton handling her Wire Haired, Ch Lesandnic Sea The Stars Jun Ch, to 2nd place.

Colette Muldoon’s Group 5 victor was Jimmy Duggan’s Siberian Husky, Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart for Leorient Jun Ch; ‘Flint’ also won the group at Combined Int, and was 3rd at Banbridge, and was BIS at Working/Pastoral Breeds of Wales, handled as always by wife Anita. Runner up went to the top winning Pomeranian, James Newman’s Ch & GB Ch Belliver The Ultimate Creation, ICP Leaderboard Group 5 winner last year.

Brian Moran’s Group 7 winner was Aidan McKiernan’s English Setter, Sh Ch Richecca Reach For The Skye, fresh from his CC at SKC the day before; ‘Bailey’ of course was BIS at South Tipperary, but also won the group at CCC Int, IKC and was group placed at IKC and Fermoy to make him currently top Group 7 on the ICP Leaderboard. Morag, David & Ryan Connolly’s Weimaraner, Sh Ch Zilverein Got Me Mojo at Huntly, handled by Morag, group winner & RBIS at IKC wa in 2nd place.

Colm Beattie, Rita McCarry-Beattie & Mike Bottomley’s American Cocker Spaniel, Boduf Divine, headed Group 8 under Angela Hancock, her second such victory, the first coming at Banbridge. Kerry Brennan’s Cocker Spaniel, Kerrijoy Valentino Jun Ch, took his first Leaderboard points, with 2nd place.

James Newman’s Papillon, Ch, GB, Ger, Slov & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben, IKC Dog of the Year 2011 & Champion of Champions as well, won Group 9 under Ronnie Kilpatrick; ‘Ruben’ was Best in Show at Combined Canine International at Easter, took the group at Banbridge and Newtownards, where he was RBIS, repeating this again today. Raymond O’Neill, back to the homeland, handled his Pekingese, homebred Trendylook For Judygarland, to take group 2nd.

Carla Bollard O’Callaghan’s Afghan Hound, the multi BIS and group winning Ch Ashahni Amir Jun Ch, won his third Group 10 this year under French judge Christophe Coppel from France, another Leaderboard winner from last year, and who is currently in the lead for the ICP crystal again for 2012. A new dog in group honours was in 2nd spot, place, Don Foran’s latest Borzoi, Lynx Forbidden Love at Donskoi.
