FERMOY INTERNATIONAL '13 BEST IN SHOW
Judging BIS at Fermoy International was Jean McErlane from New Zealand, making a welcome return to Ireland. Her Best in Show went to the Bichon Frise, Ashing Connolly’s homebred Ch & GB Ch, Ashmair Double Act, a young dog well used to the limelight, both at home and across the water in the UK where he holds both titles and by virtue of his win at the IKC Showdog Finals in 2012, was Ireland’s representative at the Eukanuba Challenge in America in December. A Pup of the Year winner, ‘Beau’ has 5 CCs and 5 Res CCs and, whilst in America, won 2 Majors towards his USA title. Reserve BIS went to another dog who has hit the high spots in recent years, Catherine Kelly’s Hungarian Vizsla, Sh Ch & Lux Ch Risley Mark The Moment, yet another prolific BIS winner, handled in the main ring by Jane Anthony.

FERMOY '13 BEST BABY PUPPY IN SHOW
From all the Best Baby Puppy in Breeds, Jean McErlane’s winner for Best Baby Puppy in Show, (4 – 6 months), was Simon Edwards and Emma Molloy’s Dobermann, Tevro D’Vines Last Heir, an import from USA, with Fieldsend’s Catalonian Sheepdog, Kawanna Zena at Starwell, runner-up.

Jean McErlane also judged the Best Puppy in Show from the ten group winning Puppy in Groups who had been chosen by Paul Lawless, well known and successful in many breeds, showing under the Revloch prefix. Jean’s winner and progressing to the POTY Final next Easter was Clifford and Eileen Aiken’s Scottish Terrier, Slievecroob Fergus, handled by son, Christopher, a former Junior Handler of the Year who represented Ireland at the International Final a few years back. Runner- up was the Pomeranian, Sean Carroll and nephew James Newman’s Belliver Unexpected Destiny, handled by Sean, and of course James was another of Ireland’s top Junior Handlers.

Jean McErlane also selected Best Veteran in Show from all the Best Veteran in breed winners. She gave the big rosette to Cathy Loughlin for her almost 10 years old Irish Setter, Sh Ch & Int Ch Thendara Versace Among Rohanmor, who was Annual Champion back in 2006 and 2007. Runner up here was Sharon Kelly’s Mastiff, Ch & Int Ch Old Jordan’s Girl, Annual Ch in 2009 and now nearly nine years old.

Paul Lawless judged the Champion Stakes and found his winner in Tom and Annie Mervyn’s German Shorthaired Pointer, Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Kalivar Dusky Rose at Tomanipoint, with the American Cocker Spaniel, GB Sh Ch Nasaileen In The Buff, owned by Mark and Lisa Nelson and Leanne Bryant and handled by Leanne, Reserve.

Margaret Furlong officiated Group 1 where her winner was John O’Mahoney’s Welsh Corgi Pembroke, Chawton Drama Queen, Group 2nd last year at Killarney, with in second spot, Wescott Smith, Smith & Rual’s Briard, Gilcoru Merdoc D’Brie At Rozimba, a nice reward for these Yorkshire visitors.

Paul Lawless judged the puppy groups, in Puppy Group one he found his winner in Connolly & Gregory's Border Collie, Tonkory Gold Digger At Huntly, runner-up was Castillo & Fortune's Shetland Sheepdog, Richmaus Perfect Picture Of Navarrem.

Topping Group 2 under John Jakobsen from Norway was Michael Carr’s Boxer, Moydrum Quality Act, Puppy Stakes winner at Tralee last August, who went on to BIS 3, whilst the runner-up spot was occupied by the Rottweiler, Tom Lawlor and Noel Beggs’ Ch & GB Ch Jakroy Dark Defender, ‘Dexter’ handled as ever by Noel to his many wins here and in GB, and who was also Group 2nd in December at DDSS.

Paul Lawless' choice was Mcwhirter's Bulldog, Aldanat Lando, with O'Sullivan-Fealy's Newfoundland, Blacktide Mysterious in second place.

Heading up the terriers in Group 3 was Ross Delmar’s Smooth Fox Terrier, Ch & Int Ch Shillelagh Smooth Operator, group 2nd yesterday whilst in second place under Canadian Judge, Terry Carter, was Ger and Laura Cox’s Bull Terrier, Ch Megaville Plenty More, Third Top Terrer in 2012 with a Group win at Banbridge and seven other group placings over the year.

The winner here was Aiken's Scottish Terrier, Slievecroob Fergus with Paul Lawless placing McLoughlin's Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, Tristan Tobias Kni-York in second.

Our resident Australian, Wal Westren, judged the Dachshunds in Group 4, awarding top spot to Gerry McFaul’s top winning Long Haired Ch & GB Ch Dachville Special Blend; ‘Jill’ was top Dachshund last year with no fewer than eight Groups, and this year has the group from Banbridge and 2nd at IKC CW on St Patrick’s Day. She also now has 5 CACIBs and 8 CCs. Allan & Dick’s Miniature Wire Haired Dachshund, Rodrigo Diervilla, Group winner the previous day, was 2nd.

Polish judge, Malgorzata Wieremiejczyk-Wierzchowska, judged the Spitz and Primitive breeds of Group 5, where her winner was Peri Burnside’s Alaskan Malamute, Ch Libertia Reggae Master Jun Ch handled by son Adam to a first group spot, with Amanda Sammon’s Japanese Shiba Inu, Ch Sakanda Wishinonastar, in second place repeating his IKC win in March.

Malgorzata Wieremiejczyk-Wierzchowska also judged Group 6 where her winner was Roy and Lesley Blevins’ Basset Hound, Blevwils First And Foremost, handled by Heather Arrell to a first group award, with Eddie and Gail Patterson’s Rhodesian Ridgeback, Ch Rocksham Kimweri Jun Ch, Cork Group winner last year and third in the Group 6 Leaderboard 2012, in second place.

In Puppy Group 6 Paul Lawless chose Blevins' Basset Fauve de Bretagne, Blevwils Cool 'N' Classy as his winner, second place went to Reynolds' Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, Tioga Hugh Goes To Glenariff.

Topping Group 7 under Australian Judge, Keith Lovell, was Catherine Kelly’s Hungarian Vizsla, Sh Ch & Lux Ch Risley Mark The Moment, handled by Jane Anthony, en route to RBIS, with Jimmy Havens’ Brittany Spaniel, Le Havre Éclair, in second, a nice win both for this breed and also sporting exhibitor.

Heading up Group 8 under Belgian judge, Walter Van De Broeck, was Kerry Brennan’s Cocker Spaniel, Blackhills Bewitched By Kerrijoy, a Swedish import, who has hit the ground running since arriving in Ireland, with runner-up spot going to Joe Caulfield and Joanna Furlong’s Irish Water Spaniel, Ch, GB & Int Sh Ch Fynder On Shifting Ground, Top Group 8 last year due to his multitude of group wins and placings, and he was Group winner this year at Portadown as well.

Paul Lawless' winning puppy was O'Donoghue's Labrador, Philipstown Atlantic Breeze, second place went to Hynes' American Cocker Spaniel, Fielgar Royal Delight At Carnahara.

The Best in Show winner at Fermoy came from Group 9, Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frise, Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Trouble, and in second spot under Austrian judge, Guenther Ehreneich, was Paula Hamilton’s Boston Terrier, Havasu Sandstorm, runner up in the Puppy Stakes the previous day.

Paul Lawless' pick in Puppy Group 9 was Murphy's Japanese Chin, Rivendell Christine Daae, Gura-Mallon's French Bulldog, Celticlibrid Secret Weapon was runner-up.

Italian Judge Fernando Asnaghi’s Group 10 winner was the BIS 4 winning Deerhound, Emer Mooney’s eighteen months old Ch Rosslyn Quartet; ‘Elsie’ was Puppy Group 10 winner here last year during which she had three group placings and was Annual Champion, whilst in second place was Lynette Harvey’s Borzoi, GB Ch Albaneiler Belisima, over on one of her many visits from Anglesey.
