IKC CELTIC WINNERS '11 BEST IN SHOW
It was the Norwegian Elkhound, Ch Whittimere Pandemonium, who took all before him under Best in Show judge, Evelyn Hurley, at the IKC Celtic Winners show on St Patrick’s Day at the IKC National Show Centre at Cloghran. Owner handler, Jerry Daly, and wife Nancy, have been in the breed for many years, and their Ennafort dogs are well known both at home in Ireland and in GB, where they have also been titled. But it is not often that this breed soars to the heights of Best in Show, in fact the last time this was achieved, it was by one of the Dalys homebred Ennafort dogs, a long time ago at Hibernian, then held in Navan, under the late Cecil Williamson, namely homebred Ch Ennafort Milo. Young ‘Odin’ however, seems set on putting the breed back on the high flyers map, as he was a qualifier for the POTY ‘10 and took the Club Ch show earlier this year as well. Today he took the large group under Zena Thorn Andrews. It was a great day too for Lynda and Colin Matthews, as shortly after Lynda received the trophy for IKC Dog of the Year for their Whippet, Ch GB & Int Ch Collooney He’s The One, she handled their Borzoi, Ch Donskoi Asmodey, to win Group 10 under Michael Quinney, ultimately going on to Reserve Best in Show. He was Top Borzoi in 2010 and is still only 19 months of age. Sean Delmar, IKC President, and John Fox of generous sponsors, GAIN PET FOOD, were there to make the presentations.

A minute’s silence was held before the start of judging at Dundalk, marking the end of an era for the club, as it lost two popular committee members of over fifty years standing in Patsy Murphy, and his wife, Maureen. Their passing has left a huge void in the club, but also in the world of dogs in Ireland, Patsy known so well to many of us for his sense of humour, which shone through when he worked the P A system at countless Dundalk shows, and entertained countless judges at the after show dinner with his illusions; Maureen was always on hand to steward, help in any way, and look after the club show trophies. At the time of their passing they were respectively President and Vice President of Dundalk. Their daughters were there at the show to make a special presentation of crystal to the BIS winner, in memory of their parents. They are seen here on either side of John Weatherhead, who accepted the presentation on behalf of the BIS winner, and (left) Dundalk Committee member Ann Whiteand (right) Mary O’Donoghue, Dundalk Treasurer.
