Best Baby Puppy in Show judged by Martin O’Donoghue was the Morton, Milicevis and Mair partnership’s 5 months old Boston Terrier, Glenauld Penelope Pitstop For Andronia, handled to victory by Sinead Taggart, with RBBPIS awarded to Philip Behan’s 5 months old Russian import Chow, Art Kot Zara At Mingfield.

COLERAINE '16 PUPPY STAKES
Taking charge of the Stakes was Heather Salmon Wilson where her Puppy Stakes winner and qualifier for the Combined Canine Club/Royal Canin Pup of the Year Final next Easter was Dione Fitzsimons’ Dobermann, Sant Kreal Hugo Boss, with the runner-up spot taken by Linda and Romano Morelli’s Lhasa Apso, Lingberg Kalden at Hillcave.

The Junior Stakes winner under Heather Salmon Wilson was Aisling Halton’s Miniature Poodle, Kirklyns Invictus, with second place awarded to Barbara Bernath’s 15 months old Weimaraner, Rhydawel Brynsedric.

Heather Salmon Wilson’s Champion Stakes winner was Cathrina Caffrey’s Weimaraner, Sh Ch Quick Silver Hugel, now qualifying for the Dublin DSS/Happy Dog Champion of Champions Final in January; runner-up was Joan Duffus’ Samoyed, Ch Radost Zhini Arctic Light Over Kynoch.

Topping the Veteran Stakes at Coleraine under Heather Salmon Wilson was Carla Bollard O’Callaghan’s Afghan Hound, Ch, GB & Int Ch Ashahni Amir, racking up another victory at the head of the Royal Canin/Irish Canine Press Veteran Leaderboard; in second place was Trudy Walsh’s Irish Setter, Sh Ch Ardbraccan Obsession.

Andrew Beare judged the terriers of Group 3, selecting as his winner, Ger & Liam Delaney’s Irish Terrier, Ch Carliams Red Dawn; runner-up today was the Border Terrier, Eric and Margaret Armstrong’s Ch Ploughdown Plato.

Topping the Dachshunds in Group 4 under Alexa Brown was Bill Warke’s Standard Long, Ch Glasvey Hurricane Run, handled by Gerry McFaul; in second spot was Caroline Reynolds’ Miniature Smooth, Glenariff Next Chapter.

Group 5 was judged by Terry Griffin, who awarded top spot to Roma Giedraitiene’s Siberian Husky, Kristari's Wild Charm; second place went to the Russian import German Spitz Klein, Samantha McMurray and Ann Fulton’s Ch Esta Russian Kiss Montblank.

Eamon White’s Group 6 winner was Barry O’Neill’s Basset Hound, Ch, GB & Int Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, the BIS winner at South Tipperary and ILKA, adding more points to his total at the top of the GAIN Petfood/Irish Canine Press/Dog World Group 6 Leaderboard, with the runner-up spot taken by Ivor and Michelle Keelan’s P.B.G.V. Afterglow Chunkey Monkey Of Tejas.

It was the BIS winner, Tom and Annie Mervyn’s German Shorthaired Pointer, Sh Ch Tomanipoint Celtic Knight, who topped Group 7 under Brian Grace, who awarded second place to Christine McLarnon’s Irish Setter, Gwendariff Nuts Aboutu Glenavna.

Heading up Group 8 under Mary O’Donoghue was Ralph Dunne’s Clumber Spaniel, Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Richley Royale Bond, who finished the day by taking BIS 4; in second place was the Labrador Retriever, Cyril South Armstrong’s Roslieve Mr Darcs.

Topping the sighthounds in Group 10 under Ann White was Lyn Appleby, John Minchin, Jayne Edwards and Mary Mulvaney’s Afghan Hound, Ch & Int Ch Davashey To Tell The Truth; second place went to Stephanie and Fiona Robertson and Steve O’Brien’s Whippet, Ch Sheol Golden Child.

As the show was mainly held in the marquee, a secretary’s office was set up conveniently in the corner, here was manned by Marjorie Briggs, one of Coleraine’s willing helpers there to hold the fort for secretary and friend, Madelene Rainey when she was off dealing with other queries.

It is becoming a Coleraine tradition now that the Chairman’s wife Mandy, a talented baker whose reputation is well known in dog circles, bakes a ‘Coleraine cake’, which she then cuts, with assistance from husband, Willie, at the top table on the day, and distributes it to judges (and press). Another lovely piece of confectionery, well up to Mandy’s usual standards.
