Reserve BIS under Doreen was Brian and Hazel Ahere’s American Akita, 4 year old ‘Kay’, Ch Melodor Kaygeebe.

CARLOW '13 CHAMPION STAKES
Topping the Champion Stakes under Theresa Ownes was Richard Dalton, Philip O’Brien & Jarka Poulova’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Ch Dalstar Il Divo, giving co-owners Philip and Jarka a day to remember. In second place was Craig Bannon & Naimh McCarthy’s American Akita, Ch, GB & Int Ch Hoka Hey’s The Power And The Glory, recently group winner at Tralee.
CARLOW '13 PUPPY STAKES
Theresa Owens judged the Puppy Stakes where her winner was Paul Scanlon and Ashling Connolly’s Miniature Schnauzer, Nujax Johnny Cash; 7 months old ‘Cash’ already a winner with several green stars and adult group 2 at Killarney. Runner-up was Craig Bannon & Niamh Carroll’s American Akita, Cannonbear Some Like It Hot.
CARLOW '13 VETERAN STAKES
A first appearance in the Veteran Stakes was rewarded with the first place rosette for Rowe’s Standard Poodle, Ch & Int Ch Kissena Witchy Woman of Fabiola, eligible for the veteran class as she was 8 years old on the day; runner-up under Theresa Owens was Una Rigney’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Ch & GB Ch Misty Blue Dawn At Arigna, keeping up her lead at the top of the Irish Canine Press/Royal Canin Veteran Leaderboard.

Heading up the Brace Stakes under Theresa Owens was Colin & Wilma Johnston’s Black Russian Terriers, litter brother and sister, Rohantia Miroslav and Rohantia Yelelna.

Mulrooney’s Old English Sheepdog, Ch Bellablue Fellabreda, handled by Seamus Keane; he was group winner at IKC Celtic Winners and Bray. Runner-up was Frances Toman’s Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Ch Whitepoint Stare If You Dare, group winner at Swords.

The BIS 3 winning Newfoundland, Willie & Mandy Dobbin’s Ch & GB Ch Brooklynbear Nijinsky, handled by William Jnr, was Helen Hegarty’s winner in Group 2 with George Graham’s Long Haired St Bernard, Ch Eminence Ambassador, in second place.

Heading up the Dachshunds in Group 4 under South African judge, Dr Heidi Rolfes, on a first visit to Ireland, was Gerry McFaul’s Standard Long Haired, homebred Dachville Exotic Blend, another in the long line of top Dachville winners; in second place under Heidi was Liz & Nigel Bate’s 15 months old Miniature Smooth, Radclyffe Wheatear For Batendach, taking a first placing.

Brian Harris from New Zealand was on a return visit to Ireland, but on his first visit to Carlow he awarded Group 5 to Brian and Hazel Aherne’s American Akita, Ch Melodor Kaygeebe, who then went on to finish the day Reserve Best in Show; Brian’s second place rosette was awarded to Peri Burnside’s Alaskan Malamute, Ch Libertia Reggae Master, handled by son Adam, group winner at Fermoy and today taking an eighth group placing of the year.

Heading up Group 6 under Eddie Patterson was Barry O’Neill’s Basset Hound, Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, his run of victories this year giving him an unassailable lead at the top of the ICP/Connolly’s Red Mills Leaderboard for 2013; in second place was Ivor & Michelle Keelan’s P.B.G.V. Ch Afterglow Chunkey Monkey At Tejas.

Heading up Group 7 under Berri Beare was Aidan McKiernan’s English Setter, Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Richecca, recently having won back to back Best in Show victories at Bangor, with Tom & Annie Mervyn’s German Short Haired Pointer, Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Karlivar Dusky Rose At Tomanipoint, BIS winner at Deise, in second place

Swedish group specialist Moa Persson was centre ring for Group 8 where her winner was Mary and Martin O’Donoghue’s 11 months old Labrador Retriever, royally homebred Philipstown Atlantic Breeze, second place went to Orla Murray’s 8 year old Golden Retriever, Sh Ch Rathcloon Spice is Nice.

Brian Harris was back centre ring for Group 9, selecting the eventual BIS 3 winner, Sean Carroll & James Newman’s Papillon, Multi Ch Denemore Iconsruben, to head up this very strong group; Brian’s second placed dog was another top winner, Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frise, Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Act.

New Zealander Louise Harris was in charge of Group 10, finding her winner in Carla Bollard O’Callaghan’s Afghan Hound, the very successful Ch & GB & Int Ch, Ashanhi Amir, topping group 10 last year; Emer Mooney’s Deerhound, Ch Rosslyn Quartet, handled by Katie Kelly, was in second spot.
