All Breeds judge, Walter Schicker from Germany, judged Best in Show at Bangor & North Down’s 10th Anniversary Championship show, finding his winner in Aiden McKiernan’s English Setter, Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Richecca Reach For The Skye, now 8 years of age, ‘Bailey’ was enjoying back to back success at Bangor after BIS here last year. Reserve Best in Show under Walter was a delighted Maureen Wade with her Italian Greyhound, Ch Turigner Wind In The Willows, ‘Willow’ was to celebrate her 2nd birthday just four days later, so an early birthday present; she was the Bitch CC winner this year at Crufts.

A great entry of 39 Champions awaited Andrew Brace in the Champion Stakes and topping the lot was Patsy and Wilma McDevitt’s Long Coat Chihuahua, the German import, Ch X-Tra Special For Helena Of European Friendship, the recent CC & BOB winner at Leeds; in second was Peter & Jacqui Embleton’s Bernese Mountain Dog, Ch & GB Ch Bernemcourt Fascination, CC winner at Birmingham National and SKC.

The Puppy Stakes were judged by Andrew Brace and from the 49 entries, his winner was Felicity Thompson’s 6 months old Whippet, Barnesmore Legally Blonde, handled at her first show by mum, Lucinda; in second place was Brenda and Joe Doyle’s homebred Shetland Sheepdog, Sevenoaks Satin And Lace.

From the 20 entries in the Junior Stakes, Andrew Brace selected Grenville Francis’ Rough Collie, Ileyda Satin Lace Of Peblu, with second place awarded to Stephen Thomas, Don Foran and Lynda Matthews’ Whippet, Ailesbury Silver Lace.

Topping the Veteran Stakes under Andrew Brace was Catherine Broaders with the family’s Wire Fox Terrier, Ch Crystalwire Solo Of Brookside, with Ann & Eamon White’s BSD Tervueren, Ch Revloch Ready Teddy Go To Whitandon, in the runner-up slot.

Heading uo the Brace Stakes under Andrew Brace was John Francis’ duo of Boxers, brother and sister, Rathbride Fully Loaded and Rathbride Final Fantasy.

Group 1 was judged by Netherlands All Breeds judge, Ricky Loch Romans, making a return visit to Ireland, and her winner was Emilio Castillo & Patrick Fortune’s Shetland Sheepdog, homebred Navareem Fortune Lady, she also gained her title on the day; runner-up was Peter & Jacqui Embleton’s Catalonian Sheepdog, Ch Starwell Princess At Bernemcourt.

Danish judge, Jorgen Hindse, who after a long day in the breed rings, returned to cast his eyes over the BOBs in Group 2, awarding the group to Jackie & Andrea Stubbs and Mossy Linehan’s Rottweiler, Ch Cotarrin Fright Night, who then went on to BIS 3. In second spot under Jorgen was Billy & Josh Henderson’s Dobermann Pinscher, Ch & GB Ch Tuwos Halestorm.

Making a return visit to Bangor was Romanian judge, Dr Cristian Vantu, this time to judge most of the terriers and his group winner was James Kennedy and Katie Lennon’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Joey De Lux From Kendlea; second spot went to Richard Dalton, Philip O’Brien and Jarka Pouluva’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Dalstar Il Divo.

Dutch All Breeds judge, Jo Schepers, judged all the Dachshunds, awarding the group to Gerry McFaul’s Standard Long Haired, Ch & GB Ch Dachville Special Blend, ’Jill’s fifth group victory this year, she topped Group 4 last year on the ICP/Connolly’s Red Mills Leaderboard. In the runner-up spot was Mary & Joe Allan and Mary Dick’s Wire Haired Kaninchen, Auchans Come And Get Me Too.

Akita specialist, and All Breeds judge, Tabitha Buckley was on a first ever visit to Ireland from Australia and at Bangor she judged Group 5 where her winner was Sean Carroll & James Newman’s Pomeranian, Ch GB & Int Ch Belliver The Ultimate Creation, ‘Victoria’ adding yet another group to her long list of successes including Deise where she was RBIS; taking second spot on the podium was Peri Burnside’s Alaskan Malamute, Ch Libertia Reggae Master, handled by son Adam.

Clocking up yet another victory in Group 6, this time under Belgian judge, Theo Leenen, was Barry O’Neill’s Basset Hound, Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, going on later in the day to win BIS 4; second placed was Aiden McKiernan, having a great day, this time with his Beagle, GB Ch Dialynne Mr Sunshine.

It was Gisa Schicker from Germany who sent through the eventual Best in Show winning English Setter, Aiden McKiernan’s Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Richecca Reach For The Skye, with in second place, Cathy Loughlin & Katie Kelly’s Irish Setter, Sh Ch Rohanmor You Were Made For Me, BIS earlier this year at Munster Canine.

Dutch gundog specialist, Tuus Boogaert Kwint was centre ring for Group 8 where she chose Angela and Chris Hancock’s Labrador Retriever, Ch & Sh Ch Ballyhenry Hancourt Yeats to represent the group in the Best in Show ring. In second place was Michele Knapp’s English Springer Spaniel, Sh Ch Calvdale Thief Taker.

Polish All Bredds judge, Poitr Krol was on a first visit to Ireland, he had a busy day in the breed ring abd then judged Group 5 where his winner was the Standard Poodle, Bryson’s Standard Poodle, Ch & Int Ch Provost Summertime Sophie, whilst in second place was John Yek & Louis Hogan’s 14 months old Pekingese, Palacegarden Perseus At Pearlstone.

Finnish hound specialist and Tibetan Terrier aficionado under her Karamain prefix, Tuula Plathan, judged all the sighthounds in Group 10, awarding the group to Maureen Wade’s Italian Greyhound, Ch Turigner Wind In The Willows, who then went on to Reserve Best in Show; in the runner-up spot was Lynda Cuthbert Matthews and husband Colin’s top winning Whippet, IKC Dog of the Year 2010, Ch, GB & Int Ch Collooney He’s The One.

Judging took place indoors in the new Balmoral Pavillion and outdoors in the former horse arena, with plenty of space for parking and also for the now obligatory tents.
