Sally Burns, well known for her top winning Valentine Poodles, was making her debut in the Best in Show ring at Bangor & North Down’s 9th Championship show and at the end of a long sunny day her top choice fell to Aidan McKiernan’s English Setter, Sh Ch Richecca Reach For The Skye, 7 year old ‘Skye’ winning his second BIS this year and along the way, his fifth group; he has also been successful across the water with CC success at SKC back in May. Reserve BIS under Sally was James Newman’s Papillon, Ch, GB, Ger, Slov & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben, ‘Ruben’ the BIS winner at Combined Canine at Easter.

Topping the Champion Stakes under Colette Muldoon was Triona Ni She’s Dobermann, Ch Farentino Wot A Thriller, ‘Tino’ was the group winner at Combined International and also at Cork where he was BIS 4; runner-up was Michael Killeen-King’s Maltese, Ch Fair Princess Fiona Da Perla Elysia For Dolcissimo.
BANGOR '12 JUNIOR STAKES
Colette Muldoon’s Junior Stakes winner at Bangor was Tom and Annie Mervyn’s 12 months old German Short Haired Pointer, Barleyarch Blue Riband At Tomanipoint.
BANGOR '12 PUPPY STAKES
All Breeds judge, Colette Muldoon, judged the Puppy Stakes, her winner was Ross Delmar’s Smooth Fox Terrier bitch, 10 months old homebred Shillelagh Port Vino.
BANGOR '12 VETERAN STAKES
Heading up the veterans under Colette and maintaining his lead at the top of the ICP/ROYAL CANIN Veteran Leaderboard was Lyn Appelby, John Minchin and Jane Edwards’ Afghan Hound, Ch Kazdanabad Karlo Rossi, handled by Mary Mulvaney with 2nd place to Veronica Coutts’ WFT, Laural Boy.

Dermot Timmins judged Group 1 where his winner was Ann and Eamon White’s BSD Tervueren Ch Revloch Ready Teddy Go To Whitandon, 9 year old ‘Lennox’ winning his 2nd group this year after similar success at Bray a month earlier; runner-up was Alan Matthews’ Pembroke Corgi, Ch & GB Ch Maplecreek Beach Bunny At Craigycor, another goldn oldie at 8 years of age.

Making her debut centre ring in Group 2 was Dione Fitzsimons, well known for her Fitzkin Dobes and Rotts and also for her handling skills, where she chose her winner as Billy and Josh Henderson’s Dobermann Pinscher, homebred Tuwos Halestorm, a first group victory this year en route to BIS 4; second place went to Claire McBride & Heather Blair’s Bullmastiff, GB Ch Ardhub Jenson, group winner recently at Dundalk.

Topping the terriers of Group 3 under visiting Finnish judge, Marja Salminen, was Barbara Ferguson’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Edbrios Dolce Vita, handled by co-breeder, Philip O’Brien to a first group victory this year, she was also BIS at the club show held the same day. In second place was Ross Delmar’s Smooth Fox Terrier, Ch & Int Ch Shillelagh Smooth Operator, group winner at IKC and also at Combined Int where he was RBIS.

Marja Salminen also judged Group 4, the breeds having been judged by UK Dachshund specialist, Simon Parsons. Coming out on top under Marja was Mary & Joe Allan and Mary Dick’s Wire Haired Miniature, Ch & Gib Ch Alpheratz Francesco, a first group win of the year after 5 previous group placings; runner-up was the Smooth Haired, Emerson’s Ch Batendach Black And Sleek For Pachego, with a first group placement this year.

Mary Davidson, well known for her Sassasica Siberian Husky teams was another making her debut centre ring when she judged Group 5, awarding top honours to Asling, Bannon and Carroll’s American Akita, Am Ch Hoka Hey’s The Power And The Glory, a second group success following on from his victory at Kilkenny back in June; second place went to Kate Harbinson’s Swedish import Pharaoh Hound, Ch Enigma Quite A Showgirl With Actolia.

John Walsh officiated Group and her winner was Barry O’Neill and Sandra Stack’s top winning Basset Hound, Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, who then went on to BIS 3, with in second place, Eamon Murray’s Beagle, Ch Heathergrove Persian Warrior, the great rivalry between these two dogs has been intense but friendly all year long.

Dutch judge, Gerda Halff van Boven was another late addition to the panel, judging a number of breeds and also Group 7 where her winner was the BIS winning English Setter, Aidan McKiernan’s Ch Richecca Skye’s The Limit, with Ken Kennedy’s Irish Setter, Sh Ch & GB Sh Ch Glennara Coer De Lion, the group winner most recently at Bray, Sligo and Dundalk.

Completing the trio of first time group judges was Emma Archibald, well known for her very successful Abinvale Golden Retrievers, one of our former top Junior Handlers, today also judging the Juniors, and in Group 8 she awarded top honours to Joe Caulfield and Joanne Furlong’s Irish Water Spaniel, Sh Ch & Int Sh Ch Fynder On Shifting Ground, his 8th group victory of the year leaving him well clear at the top of the Group 8 ICP/Connolly’s Red Mills Leaderboard. Runner-up under Emma was Liam and Brian Moran’s Flat Coated Retriever, Sh Ch Almanza Something Excellent.

It was the RBIS winning Papillon, James Newman’s Ch, GB, Ger, Slov & Int Ch Denemore Iconsruben, who was Moira Grant-Cook’s winner in Group 9, with Dickson’s Pug, Habiba Paparazzi At Beltoy taking a first group placing in the runner-up spot.

Kari Salminen from Finland had a very busy day with the highest number of dogs and he also judged Group 10, finding his winner in Felicity Thompson’s Greyhound, Ch Boughton Black Knight Of Barnesmore, his first group of the year after three previous group placings. In second spot under Kari was Emer Mooney’s Deerhound, Rosslyn Quartet, ‘Elsie’ only 10 months old on the day and taking her first group placing.
