Making her debut in the Best in Show ring was Zita Fogarty of the well known Yarabis Afghan Hounds and from the 10 group winners presented to her she chose another newcomer to the big ring, Stephanie and Maura Walsh’s homebred American Cocker Spaniel, Sh Ch Silveross Free Spirit, ‘Portia’ today taking her first group, so a great day for both dog and owner. Reserve Best in Show was awarded to Jimmy Duggan’s Siberian Husky, Ch & Int Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart For Leorient, ‘Flint’ handled as usual by Anita who has piloted him to his many successes both at home and across the water.

BANBRIDGE '13 CHAMPION STAKES
Topping the Champion Stakes under Brian Fogarty was Maureen and Brian Carroll’s Keeshond, Ch & Int Ch Arctic Kees Best Kept Secret, a return visit to the Champion Stakes Finals at the start of next year; in second place was Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frise, Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Act.

Brian Fogarty judged the Puppy Stakes and his winner with a ticket to the POTY Finals next Easter for Mick Gavin’s Lakeland Terrier, Kebulak Sixty Minute Man, a great night out ahead; in second spot was Dermot Alford’s Tibetan Terrier, Christate Goodtime Girl Of Avannah.

Heading up the veterans in the Veteran Stakes was Ann & Eamon White’s BSD Tervueren, Ch Revloch Ready Teddy Go To Whitandon, with Veronica Coutts’ Wire Fox Terrier, Laural Boy, in second.

The ever popular Josie Foley judged Group 1 where her winner was regular cross-channel visitors, Mike Gilchrist and Barry Nelson’s Hungarian Puli, Ch & GB Ch Cariadus Galadriel At Silkata, a first group victory for ‘Blodwyn’ who has 9 CCs in the UK, with Paul, Jean and Kelly Lawless’ Schipperke, Ch & GB Ch Monterrez Jingle Belle For Hantreved, repeating her second spot from Portadown.

Latvian judge, Rita Kadike Skadina, was ring centre for Group 2, sending forward to BIS the Great Dane, Lorraine Barrett’s 2 year old Ballyfrawley November Rain, again a first group success; runner-up was Ber Mulley and Donal O’Donoghue’s Leonberger, Ruben Vom Loengarten, just 14 months old and imported from Germany.

It was back to back group success in Group 3 when Harold and Helene Quigg’s Kerry Blue Terrier, Torums Calico Jack took top honours again, this time under American judge, Gloria Geringer, whose choice for 2nd spot again fell to Harry O’Donoghue’s Wire Fox Terrier, but this time Blackdale Goldmaker.

Leading home the Dachshunds in Group 4 under Eamon Murray of the well known ‘Heathergrove’ Beagles was Gerry McFaul’s top winning Long Haired, Ch & GB Ch Dachville Special Blend, who topped the ICP/Connolly’s Red Mills Leaderboard last year for Group 4; runner-up under Eamon was Seamus Dunne and Ann Shone’s Miniature Wire, Ch Hanishan Solitaire, group winner at IKC Celtic Winners.

Resident Aussie, Wal Westren, judged Group 5 where his winner was the eventual RBIS winning Siberian Husky, Jimmy Duggan’s Ch & Int Ch Bedarra Cold Paws Warm Heart For Leorient, handled as always by wife, Anita. Runner-up was Sean Carroll and James Newman’s Pomeranian, 21 months old Belliver Unexpectedintention, handled by Sean.

Trudy Walsh, famous for her Ardbraccan gundogs, officiated Group 6, and it was 2 groups in 2 days for the Basset Hound, Barry O’Neill and Sandra Stack’s Ch & GB Ch Knockogue Arthurs Legacy, when Trudy brought him into first place; in second place was Aidan McKiernan’s Beagle, Dialynne Indiana Jones At Bushbane, runner up also at Cloghran and Dublin DSS at the end of last year.

Topping Group 7 under Gloria Geringer was Catherine Kelly’s BIS winning Hungarian Vizsla, Sh Ch & Lux Ch Risley Mark The Moment, handled today by Jane Anthony, with Joyce Ruigrok and Noeleen Eccles’ Italian Spinone, Hastabbi Slap And Tickle At Sharpshot, handled by Noeleen to a first group placing in second.

From Group 8 came the Best in Show winner, Stephanie and Maura Walsh’s American Cocker Spaniel, Sh Ch Silveross Free Spirit, judge Gloria Geringer’s runner-up rosette going to Michele Knapp’s English Springer Spaniel, Sh Ch Calvdale Carte Blanche, with a first group placing of the year.

Italian judge Francesco Cochetti was back centre ring for the second day in a row, this time for Group 9, selecting Ashling Connolly’s Bichon Frise, Ch & GB Ch Ashmair Double Act, who then went on to BIS 3; in second place was Katherine Black’s Maltese, Ch Mion Bitter Sweet, nearly 3 years old ‘Toby’ was G3 at the IKC International last year.
BANBRIDGE '13 GROUP 10
Coming out on top of Group 10 under Trudy Walsh was Marion, Tim and Ian Finney’s Irish Wolfhound, Gulliagh Aramis, group winner last year at Bray, moving up one place from the previous day, with second spot today occupied by Portadown’s group winner, Albert Ritchie’s Whippet, Demerlay Armabay Billie Jean.
